Ryder Robinson is learning about fame from mom Kate Hudson

10/10/2007 at 06:34 PM ET

Actress Kate Hudson grew up watching her mom Goldie Hawn and longtime boyfriend Kurt Russell act, and now it’s Kate’s son, Ryder Russell, 3 1/2, who is observing.

I watch my son when he goes on set, and [he] watches what we do. You can’t help but be interested in what everybody is doing.

However, the 28-year-old mom doesn’t think that Ryder really understands what he is watching.

I don’t think he has any understanding of [it]. I think he’s aware that it’s mommy’s job.

But Kate understands how he feels.  She didn’t really understand when she was younger what her parents were doing — other than she knew it was their job.

People ask me that, about my parents, growing up. I don’t ever remember a defining moment where I understood what my parents did. It was their job, like anybody.

One thing is for sure, Ryder gets a kick out of seeing his mom on the television.

Every once in a while, he’ll go, ‘Oh my God, mommy, you’re on TV, you’re on TV!’

Ryder’s dad is rocker Chris Robinson.

She always seems so down to earth and a great hands on Mom.

Some people should be happy…it looks like she cut her little cutie’s hair up to his shoulders… :-)

Mom Said It

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
