Ben Affleck says daughter Violet is 'happy as hell'

Ben_and_violet_affleckParade magazine interviewed actor Ben Affleck, 35, for their October 14 issue. Ben spent time talking about his little girl Violet Anne, 22 months. Ben and his wife, Jennifer Garner, 35, are planning for Violet’s future by scoping out schools in Los Angeles, New York and in Savannah, Georgia, where the family has a country home.

Ben says that he considers Violet ‘the best thing that ever happened to me.’ He continues talking about Violet saying:

She is happy as hell and talks like crazy! She has the ability to make me smile and feel so good and be so charmed that, when I’m not with her for a while, all I want to do is go home, just to be around her again.

Ben’s own childhood wasn’t as stable as he would have liked it to be. He tells Parade that he dealt with feelings of loneliness when he was a child.

I grew up in a home environment where I wasn’t getting esteem for anything I did. I played sports, but I wasn’t great at them…There was alcoholism at home because of my father. I changed schools [at age 8], and I didn’t really know the kids at the new school. I felt alone.

Ben concludes his interview with Parade saying:

Life is very good. Am I a happy man? I am when I’m around my daughter. Then I’m a very happy man.

That’s so sweet, especially since most of the pics I’ve seen where he’s with Violet, he isn’t smiling. Perhaps he just doesn’t like the fact that his little girl is a sought after celebrity baby?

Does he mention Jen in the article? He is married to Jennifer Garner. Isn’t he happy about that? ;)

Funny that he doesn’t mention his wife at all or that his family makes him happy….just his daughter.

- mrsb on

He might’ve but CBB only posts stuff regarding the baby. He probably at least mentioned his wife once in the article.

Oh this is so sweet…I absolutely love to hear daddies gush about their girls…and you can tell how much Ben is in love with his daughter…the fact that he doesn’t mention Jen–IN THESE QUOTES…maybe they only asked him about Violet–or maybe they left those answers out–I don’t think we should crucify him for it–we know he loves Jen–they talk about each other all the time, this was just about his LITTLE girl…ADORE BEN and I love this family…and I love that they are looking at schools all over…

Ben probably spoils Violet rotten :) .

I don’t think it’s fair to judge Ben just because he didn’t mention Jen.

On Access Hollywood Ben said Jen couldn’t make the premiere of “Gone Baby Gone” because she was hard at work rehearsing for a play. He also said that when “GBG” opens on the 19th he will be in New York with Jen. Ben said which is good because Jen helps relieve all the stress he is under right down. To me, that is like saying (I need my wife). That is more telling then and interview that doesn’t mention Jen’s name.

last I checked hell was not happy

Happy as Hell? I don’t really think of HELL as a happy place…

I haven’t read the full interview so don’t know whether Ben mentions Jennifer at all. It is just that last comment, “Am I a happy man? I am when I’m around my daughter,” made it like being around Jen isn’t a reason to be happy. Just interesting he did not say “Am I a happy man? I am when I’m around my daughter AND wife.”

The story he told about Jen on Jay Leno was hilarious! He is in total love with his wife!

Sarah’s note: Here’s the video, for those that missed it.

I don’t think interviewer asked Ben any questions about Jen. Or he only asked about Violet trying to do a Ben is a daddy interview. There are more questions about Ben’s childhood/ growing up time period then about his married life.

This is a celebrity baby site, do you all really care if these celebrites talk about their spouses? Anytime I hear a celeb gushing about their partners, in the back of my head I always think, OH PLEASE!! Chances are most of these couples will break up within 1-7 years of thier marrige. Look at Reese and Ryan I thought they would last forever or even Tom and Nicole. Now when celebs talks about their children 99% of the time it is genuine because people don’t fall in and out of love with their children as they do with their mates.

I agree with Charity, I’ve seen alot of pics of him holding Violet and he doesn’t look particularly happy or where he’s with Jen and he looks distracted. Ben Affleck seems to be someone who is fighting alot of personal demons and maybe he just hasn’t finished sorting himself out yet. But the comments about his daughter are lovely, hopefully this family will defy the odds and stay happy and together.

You have to remember, a picture just captured in a fraction of a second and it is unfair to judge anything based on that fraction of a second. The rest of the time, I am sure they are just two normal married people who just happened to have jobs that put them in the limelight.
