Halle Berry covets an Orbit

At a screening of her new film, Things We Lost in the Fire, Halle Berry talked about her plans for when her and boyfriend Gabriel Aubry‘s baby arrives and a hint at what stroller she might be driving.

I’m sure I’m going to have to manage [being a working mom] a yearfrom now. I’m starting to investigate [buying things forthe baby] and do my homework and research. There’s really fabulousthings. There’s this Orbit baby stroller-slash-car seat that’s prettyinventive and I think is really gorgeous.

well well – like everyone else! i can’t comment anymore though – that’s what we bought. in fact – we installed the car seat base this past weekend. it’s actually a pretty cool stroller… we test drove pretty much everything possible. much smoother than the mutsy strollers – cooler than the bugaboos – but i never got to test the bumbleride queen b. that one has great patterns…

Everyone seems to be buying the “baby crockpots” these days. I agree, it seems nice, but unlike a bugaboo (which I can’t afford and would buy either… but can at least understand) I just can’t get past the idea of spending that kind of money on essentially an infant seat and an infant seat carrier when you could buy a bugaboo AND a very decent infant seat that would snap onto that same bugaboo for the same cost to be used oh… years longer.

I am always around little ones and am planning to start a family of my own soon. I’ve looked at the stroller reviews on CBB but would love to see a feature or review comparing the most popular models to each other, particularly the Orbit and Bugaboo. I’ve been considering this purchase since CBB did the Smack show and am anxious to make a decision – could use all the help I can get.

There’s one on Seattle Craigslist with just the toddler seat, I’ve been trying to convince my husband that our two year old needs it! I think it looks great and much smaller than our Mutsy, but he’s not going for it!

My daughter will be 6 months old next week, and we have had the Orbit system from the beginning. It is the best thing I have purchased for her! I would recommend it to anyone. The ease of being able to spin the baby seat to face you while putting a child in a car is worth the extra expense. We also purchase the bassinet attachment, which we loved (but she has now grown out of it – she is tall), and we purchased the toddler seat stroller attachment last week, so she is more comfortable when she rides, and can look around. Every single time I use the stroller, which is pretty much every day, I get questions about it. I highly recommend it! All my friends with bugaboos wish they had gotten the Orbit instead.

I also LOVE this system — full disclosure, I’m an editor for BabyTV/ePregnancy/PoshCravings — but that also means I got to see the Orbit system up close and personal at the ABC Expo in Vegas — it’s every bit as fab as everyone says it is, and I can totally see why Halle would want one. I’m glad to see this catching the public’s eye, as opposed to the very overexposed (imo) bugaboo!

This just cracks me up, in the big scheme of life, is the stroller that you use really THAT freaken important? I don’t even remember the name of mine, and yet, by golly, all 3 of my children are all perfectly normal. HMMM….

Wel i am havng a baby in dec- and there is no way that I can justify the expense ( as COOL as I know it is!!!!)

I have a peg perego from the last baby that will fit the bill- and only working part time my funds are low- I would love to WON one and justify having another stroller!! so Halle when you get given three pass one along to me!!!

What a cool stroller. I want one for my future kiddos but am pretty sure I won’t be able to afford it unless I am able to get it used or they come down in price.

As long as the baby’s safe, that’s what matters. Not that she has the most expensive stroller.

It is a cool stroller however I am with others, I can’t justify the price. Maybe the day I am rich I’ll think about it (key word being *think*) because truthfully like SNOW said who really cares how fancy your stroller is. I bought a Chicco (new) off Craigslist for $35.00 (which retailed at the time for $75.00) it’s been the BEST stroller I’ve had out of all the one’s I’ve used! It’s lightweight, easy to fold, easy to push, etc.

I don’t really need to spin my baby around in a preferred direction. By the time the kids are 2-3 yrs old they’ve outgrown it and would rather walk.

The only thing I really find cool about this is the ability to take the seat and place it on the rocker base. But guess what, Graco makes travel swings where your infant seat can attach as well and for half the cost!

I say if you can afford it go for it. But I’d rather take the cost of the stroller and put it towards my kids college fund instead!

Personally I see nothing wrong with spending on an orbit or bugaboo stroller, your gonna get good use of it and nothing is too good for someone’s child IMO. Especially if you can afford it. If you can’t afford it, than there are plenty of other nice strollers like the graco that are nice too, but I wouldn’t think twice about buying a stroller like that because I would get good use out of it for my child.

Way too bulky once the kid is ready to get out of the infant seat/bassinette, in my opinion. I have used Combis for both my daughters. Not perfect, but incredibly cheaper and so easy and compact if you are an urban dweller like me living in smaller apartments and taking taxis and subways… They update strollers every year anyway. In a few years there will be something even better than the Orbit for parents to drop a small fortune on! And you know you want to buy a new one for your second or third baby, if you are not having a baby every 2 years. I had my second daughter 5 years after the first and her stroller looked, well, outdated to me! It worked fine but I’m a snob in that regard. I didn’t want her in an “outdated” stroller. Buy a cheaper stroller and donate the rest of the money you would’ve spent on an Orbit to a children’s charity. You could even feed a family in Africa for a few years with the money saved. That’s what I should’ve done with the money spent on my second daughters Combi.

While the Orbit seems multitasking, easy to handle and all, it looks like a shopping cart to me! Personally I like the look of the Bugaboo (and others) much better.

I need an intervention. I am addicted to buying strollers! I don’t have the Orbitz, but I wish i bought it – my son is too big for it now. Instead i got the bugaboo bee, the Mutsy, Techno XT and the Quinny! I know, I am crazy. Maybe an Orbitz for the next baby…but my husband has put his foot down and said no more!

I have rheumatoid arthritis, and the Orbit system was the ONLY car seat that I could use! All the others on the market – graco, etc. – require far more hand strength than I possess, and need you to use your thumbs and small joints. The orbit, which I just bought, is sooooo much more ergonomic. And the handle on the orbit doesn’t require Hulk-like strength to simply move it, like on the others. For those moms with health issues, I say the orbit is the way to go!
