Derrick Dockery has new respect for women after birth of daughter

09/30/2007 at 09:25 AM ET

Buffalo Bills player Derrick Dockery, 27, and his wife Emma welcomed their first child, daughter Madison, on Monday, September 24.  The little girl weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces and was 20 3/4 inches long. The new dad couldn’t hide his awe at being a father when he spoke in a recent interview,

It’s a beautiful thing. It’s joyful. It’s one of those things thatseemed surreal at first. ‘Is this really me? Is this what I createdwith God’s help?’ From A to Z, from beginning to end, I was there. Ihave a great, new respect for women and what they go through. But Godknew they were strong, that they could handle it.

Aww, yay for Derrick!! I attended UT-Austin while he was a player there and I remember him being so nice to fans and a nice guy overall.

“Is this what I created with God’s help?’ ” Uh, BTW, your wife also helped!!! (i’m kidding..i know/hope he didn’t mean that he created their child by himself. Emma was there, too!)

Congratulations Derrick! I grew up with Derrick and know he is such a great human being. Miss Madison is one lucky little girl to have such a caring dad as Derrick. Love you friend!

Mom Said It

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
