Last week I headed to Hollywood to check out the suite life, as the celebrities got ready for the Emmy’s. I attended three events and got the scoop on the luxe goodies that were gifted and the wonderful charities that benefited.
Note: Yes, that’s me with High School Musical’s Corbin Bleu. I had the pleasure of meeting Corbin and his Dad actor David Reivers, who co-starred with Corbin in Jump In, at the Silver Spoon Buffet. They were both completely charming. I had to get into this shot for my own two daughters’ sakes – they are such huge fans!

First stop for me, in a sweet suite day, was Melanie Segal’s Platinum Luxury Suites. At this rooftop event at the Luxe hotel, celebrity guests were pampered with mani-pedis and tarot card readings, as they enjoyed spectacular views of all of Beverly Hills and beyond. Greg Grunberg got a new HDTivo, so his family never has to miss an episode of Heroes. Melora Hardin of The Office got Liz Claiborne accessories from their new line for Best Buy – including a gorgeous glossy faux patent leather laptote that easily doubles as a mommy bag when needed. She also picked up haircare products from Alterna haircare, a fave of Reese Witherspoon, and a cute hat from Christy’s of London. Leeza Gibbons, who is a spokesperson for event sponsor Sheer Cover was also at the suites and picked up some of the other goodies including shoes from KangaROOs, MBT Swiss Masai trainers, and jewelry from designer Rafia, known in Hollywood for her "family necklaces".
I had the pleasure of chatting with Samantha Harris on my way out of the Platinum Suites. At that time she told me she was still feeling great and looked positively radiant. The Platinum Suites raised funds and awareness for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation.
My next stop was the Mix Media Award Suites Green Pavilion presented by ALIVE! Expo, at the Sofitel Hotel. The green scene was full of positive vibes and positively full as everyone was happy to learn about how they could make a difference, without ever feeling deprived. Celebrity parents in particular were thrilled to hear about products for their kids. Cheryl Hines, Marilu Henner, Kevin Sorbo, Scott Baio, and John O’Hurley got earth friendly goodies galore at these suites. From organic cosmetics from Aubrey , Lavera, and Sunshine Botanicals, to luscious bath and body treats from Suds in a Bucket. Nature’s Baby skincare line was extremely popular with parents for it’s gentle formula and super delicious orange-vanilla scent.
Crafty stars got down to the knitty gritty with a knitting bag and kit complete with wooden needles and super-soft organic cotton yarn to knit your own washcloths courtesy of Jimmy Beans Wool. The Monday-Friday labeled towels were almost to pretty to use, but in the interest of saving trees, well worth the effort. Little Stork shared their earth and mom friendly pre-packed hospital delivery bags which have been a huge hit with busy celebrity moms and were much appreciated by Scott Baio and pregnant girlfriend Renee Sloan. Other goodies that got gifted included Butler Bags, Barefoot Dreams bathrobes and baby blankets, Fun footy pajamas from Jumpin Jammerz, jewelry from Manak Jewels and Kirsten Muenster and jewelled sandals from Lady Lanells.
My last stop of the day was at the always lavish and popular Silver Spoon Buffet, which was held this year in the stately Beverly Wilshire hotel. The atmosphere, with circular couches, and generous spread of healthy snacks and thirst quenching beverages was deliciously posh and lounge like, which invited pampered guests to relax and enjoy the day.
At the event new mom Samantha Harris of Dancing with the Stars and mom-to-be Constance Zimmer of Boston Legal/Entourage both received beautiful silk dresses from Single Couture. These non-maternity dresses magically flatter pregnant and non pregnant figures and are fast becoming an elegant pregnancy staple for celebrities who want to look fab while feeling comfortable, both now and after the baby comes. Marcia Cross is a big fan too. Samantha and Constance also got comfy shoes and slippers from Dearfoams and Superga.
The lucky guests at the Silver Spoon went on to select from a buffet of treats including scrumptious smelling body scrub from Thom Fleming, makeup from Makeup Forever and special edition bears from Care bears. Hai Elite handed out tourmaline hairdryers that get your tresses dry in minutes and digistick tourmaline flatirons that heat up in seconds. Other high end swag included gorgeous clothes from Perry Ellis and cashmere goods from Magaschoni, mini kegs and coolers from Heineken and nifty wine aerating devices from Vinturi .
Several famous attendees at the event took some time from their busy day to have custom whitening molds made of their smiles and to learn more about Give Back a Smile. Dr Lynn Jones was on hand to tell people about this wonderful program that offers reconstructive dentistry to victims of domestic abuse, free of charge.
The Silver Spoon Buffet also benefited the Creative Coalition.
