Expectant stars share their pregnancy cravings

Hollywood mamas expecting new little ones in the near future were asked by People to describe their cravings.

Courtneythorne_smith_b_gr_cbbCourtney Thorne-Smith – 39, first child due in January: It’s really sad, but I’m craving cottage-cheese.

Samantha Harris — 33, first child due beginning of October: When I seesome food on TV or someone walking down the street with something, Iwant it. I do a lot of frozen yogurt or chocolate-covered raisins. Ireally don’t discriminate with my sweets!

Drea de Matteo — 35, first child, a girl, due first week of December: A lot of Italian food, which is weird because I’m Italian and I never eat Italian food normally. I’m getting back to my roots.

Kimraver06509_cbbElisabeth Hasselbeck — 30, second child, due November 11th: Cheese, gluten-free cookies — I have celiac disease — a lot of chocolate and watermelon with salt and lime on it. It’s weird but refreshing. You should try it!

Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon — 40, second and third children, twin boys, due end of November: No cravings, but I miss sushi like crazy.

Kim Raver — 38, second child due this fall: Every once in a while I’ll belike, ‘Oh, my son is having a cupcake. Sure! I’ll have some of thatchocolate frosting.’ But I’m definitely more aware the second timearound not to go crazy.

ok i have a really stupid question, but why can’t pregnant women eat sushi?

- lena on

Elisabeth’s craving doesn’t seem that weird to me. I make a salad with parsley, watermelon, red onion, lemon juice, feta and black olives that tastes AMAZING! I found out about it from Nigella Lawson’s website when my pregnant friend was craving something mediterranean. I suggested everyone try it at least once – its delicious!

bc sushi is raw fish & uncooked animal/fish products have a higher risk of carrying food borne illnesses (ie salmonella) which poses a high risk to an unborn child. It seems to me it’s not worth the risk , no?

They CAN eat sushi. Just not the raw varieties.
California roll, veggie rolls, eel, cooked shrimp, tamago (egg omelet), chesapeake rolls (yummy blue crab rolls with lemon and old bay sold at Wegmans) Most clam varieties cause they are cooked, octopus, spicy shrimp rolls (yum), Spider rolls (deep fried softshell crab) are all completely safe to eat while pregnant as none of it is raw…

Read this link, then all you preggos go out for sushi tonight. Now Im hungry and need to go to Wegmans!

I think it’s so fun to hear what cravings momma’s have. I was all over the board with both my girls – but with the first, it was heavy on the ice cream and ground beef (not something I eat lots of at all usually), and with the second, it was ice. I’d drink just to be able to eat the ice cubes.

Cravings aside, the one thing I missed the most was the fresh, homemade mozzarella – one of the first things I had post-delivery!

Omg,i know exactly how Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon feels i missed it like crazy as well, lol

Craving cottage cheese isn’t sad… it’s all I’ve wanted to eat for weeks now!

Hi! I’m pregnant too, but my doctor told me that chocolate is not allowed.
Is he right?
(Very sorry for my English: I’m Italian)

- Lita on

Lita,

Your doctor probably meant that you should not eat too much chocolate because of the caffiene. If you were not able to eat chocolate at all while pregnant, most women would go crazy! good luck in your pregnancy!

My husband told me that one night I asked him to get me sunflower seeds and grape bubblegum. I vaguelly remember that! The best part is that once he gave it to me, he told me that I didn’t even eat them!

In the beginning of my pregnancy, the one thing that I craved was apple turnovers. It started out with me grocery shopping and ending up with me eating all 4 of them! Before pregnancy, I rarely ate dessert. Now? Argggggh!

You can have HOMEMADE Mozzarella.
Call up Rikki Carroll from http://www.cheesemaking.com
And make your own Mozzarella cheese.
It takes about 1 hour and does not require bacterial cultures. Im taking my whole kit to my sons school soon and teaching them how easy cheesemaking is.
You will need NIDO dry milk (from Mexican stores) or Nonfat Dry Milk and Heavy cream.
Buy Rikkis Chymostar rennet, its the best.
Supermarket milk is ULTRA pasteurized and wont coagulate.

HAVE FUN!
Danielle? Make some with Anya!

Sarah’s note: Danielle doesn’t read the comments. ;) I’ll pass it on.

Thank you, Nicole, you’re really kind. :)
I can’t imagine a winter without hot chocolate!
