Elisabeth Hasselbeck talks about motherhood reaffirming her beliefs

Elisabeth_2 The View’s co-host, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, 30, talks to Pregnancy magazine about her conservative viewpoints and strong opinions. Elisabeth is pregnant with her second child, due November 11th. She says:

Being a conservative mother isn’t the challenge. Being a conservative in New York City on television is the challenge. Once I had Grace, I had more reassurance and affirmation as to why I have felt the things I’ve felt for a long time.

And as a mom, now I want to make sure that the decisions I’m making and the votes that I’m casting are going to create long-term benefits for Grace and my next child and hopefully more to come after that.

She and her husband, former New York Giants quarterback Tim Hasselbeck, 29, have a 2-year-old daughter, Grace.

The November issue of Pregnancy magazine on which Elisabeth appears on the cover, will be available Tuesday at newsstands for purchase.

Not that this is really important, but The Giants cut Tim Hasselbeck.

Sarah’s note: Thanks, I’ll adjust Jamey’s post. :)

Yay for Elisabeth! Love her!

I wish Elisabeth all the best, even though she could not be further from everything I believe in. I find her style abrasive and rude at best. Hope the rest of her pregnancy goes well for her and her family though.

If you support President Bush,You are not really doing what is best for anyone, especially your children. He has used so much money and made such bad decisions that in my opinion, this country is in despair.

I think Liz is beautiful and everything goes well for her on this pregnancy-I was just like her before my son was born with multiple disabilities and one died at birth-I got a wake up call. I hope her wake up call is not as traumatic as mine.

- Silvia on

I don’t understand what you mean by her “wake-up call”?

- legemc on

Silvia seems to be discussing a conservative’s view on stem cell research.

I adore Elisabeth and it’s great to hear a different, refreshing view on TV! It’s so biased towards liberals *sigh*

I agree legemc…I was wondering the same thing. I’m guessing the poster means that she needs a wake-up call from her political beliefs, which I find a perplexing statement to make(if, in fact, that is what was meant). I also don’t understand the assumption that Elizabeth will HAVE a ‘wake-up call?’

- Jenni on

I didn’t take her comment to be about a wake-up call about politic beliefs, but maybe I’m just misinterpreting what the original poster meant. I took it to mean a wake-up call about the way she treats people. I disagree with EH on a lot of things, which I normally find it very interesting to hear other people’s differing belief’s. But I have a serious problem with the disrespectful way she presents those beliefs.

I don’t like her or her views.I admit I don’t understand why or how she is on the view but I wish her the best for her pregnancy and a healthy baby

Admittedly, I don’t watch The View on a regular basis….but I don’t think I’ve ever seen or heard Elisabeth being disrespectful. Not saying she hasn’t because haven’t we all at some point, but the way some many people react to her it’s like everything that comes out of her mouth is rude and hateful.

- legemc on

i respect elisabeth’s views, even though they differ from mine, but i wish that she would state those views more clearly and articulately- she seems to me very evasive and stand-off-ish, which i find unfortunate in a talk show host. i wish her the best with this new baby. her older daughter is so cute!

If you believe a life is a life from the point of conception, you don’t need a wake up call when it comes to issues like embryonic stem cell research, abortion, and other “life” issues. I side with Elisabeth and completely understands what she means when she says the motherhood only reaffirmed her beliefs. Elisabeth rocks… she is a strong woman standing up for her beliefs in this liberal media world we live in.

legemc: The disrespectful stuff doesn’t happen every day. There are days that I watch and I can tolerate her, even though I often find it hard to figure out what point she’s even trying to make because she ramblings so much. But on the days when controversial topics come up, she can be quite harsh with those who disagree with her, and also very unwilling to listen to anyone else’s opinion (and by listen to I don’t mean agree with, I just mean she doesn’t hear other people out).

- Kate on

I guess I’m going to have to go back to going by Kate2 to cut down on the confusion since there are two Kates posting in here.

To other Kate: I understand what you’re saying, and I completely respect your opinion. However, I do think a lot of people change their minds when they’re in an actual situation vs. when they’re speaking of it hypothetically. I’ve spent years dealing with chronic illness – and I understand how easy it is for a person to say “If I was sick I would handle it like this…..” – but when the realities of illness hit a person’s opinions could (and often do) change. So whenever a person who doesn’t have life threatening illness says that they would do (or not do) a certain thing if they had that illness, I take it will a huge grain of salt. Which is not to say that I don’t respect that person’s opinion, but I don’t see their opinion as written in stone.

I do wish that more people who didn’t have health problems would be open minded enough to let those of of us who do have health problems chose for ourselves how we want to treat those illnesses.
