Welsh TV presenter Lucy Owen expecting first child with the help of IVF

Welsh ITV Wales news presenter Lucy Owen, 35, and her husband, also TV presenter Rhodri Owen, 36, are expecting their first child in March. Lucy and Rhodri married in June 2004 and started trying for a baby but didn’t succeed.

It’s amazing. We got married three years ago and we started trying about six months after that. Nothing happened for a while and we started having certain tests and it didn’t really turn anything up.

Doctors informed the couple that their only chance of conceiving was through IVF and Lucy agreed,

I felt guilty because the complications meant that it didn’t happen naturally, but I wanted to give Rhod a child.

They started IVF this year and managed to conceive quickly.

I was 35 when I had the appointment. The NHS cut-off point is 39. That would be pushing it.

Lucy’s turmoil of emotions didn’t go unnoticed by Rhodri.

I was only upset because Lucy was upset. What was always important was us two and anything else, we’ve always said, is a bonus.

Lucy’s due to join Jamie Owen on BBC Wales Today and hopes that the pregnancy will not become an obstacle.

When you start a new job you want to go in all guns blazing. I don’t know how I will be feeling, but they have assured me everything will be all right.
