Update: Retired tennis player Kim Clijsters expecting first child — a girl

Update: Baby-to-be is a girl!

Originally posted July 10th: Belgian tennis player Kim Clijsters, 24, who retired from playing earlier this year, is expecting her first child. The news was leaked by her father Lei Clijsters who wrote in his blog (in Dutch), 

If all goes well, Kim will be a mom next year, and I will be a grandfather. Great: babysitting, changing diapers…no problem as long as I don’t have to breastfeed.

Kim is to marry her fiancé, American basketball player Brian Lynch, 29, this Saturday.

To celebrity-babies.com….Our newspaper “Het Laatste Nieuws (dutch)” and several others have confirmed it for sure that Kim clijsters is pregnant. She confirmed it.

I’m from Belgium and the pregnancy of Kim is a huge news item here. But actually she only stopped playing professional tennis this year, so in 2007 (in May). So people are wondering now whether she already knew she was pregnant and that was the reason she stopped.

Newspapers are writing the baby will be born in January 2008. And another small mistake: Kim doesn’t really have a spokesperson. Her father is always dealing with the press. So, it’s a very reliable source.
