Matt Lauer on reading to his kids

Matt_cbb_2Today anchor Matt Lauer, 49, knows the importance of reading to his children Jack, 6, Romy, 3, and Thijs, 9 1/2 months, and he and his wife, Annette Roque, make a point to add reading into their evening schedule.

We are very much into the rituals. We bathe them, we brush their teethand the family piles on the bed together. It’s a simple way we sharethe times we read together. And learn together.

Matt loves that his kids’ favorite books are some of those that he loved when he was a kid but admits that the kids go through different stages in regards to the types of books that they like.

They’ve gone through all sorts of stages. Dr. Seuss was probably thelongest lasting one and, on many evenings, it’s [still] the book ofchoice. What I love to do is read books to my children that I loved asa child. My favorite was Green Eggs and Ham.

Not only does the family believe in reading but they believe in family time with no interruptions.  Matt states,

You’ve got to prioritize your time. I don’t have BlackBerry near meduring bath, dinner or bedtime. I don’t answer calls then either.
