Mindy McCready sentenced to a year in jail

MindymcreadyA Tennessee judge sentenced country singer Mindy McCready to a year in jail after she violated probation on a 2004 drug charge. Mindy’s mother accused Mindy, 31, of scratching her during an argument at her home in Ft. Meyers, FL. Mindy resisted arrest when officers arrived at the scene.

On Friday, Mindy told Circuit Court Judge Jeff Bivins her eight weeks in jail has been incredibly difficult; she’s been separated from her 16-month-old son, Zander Ryan.

Your honor, I can honestly tell you this: This has been the longest two months of my life … not being able to hold my son … has been excruciatingly painful. I could only say I’m sorry. Please give me a chance to make things as right as they can possibly be.

The judge showed little sympathy for Mindy, and ordered her to spend a year in the county jail with credit for 75 days of time served. After release, she will spend the next two years on probation.

Clearly she has made some mistakes and had her chances but I do feel for her. I can’t imagine the horror of being separated from your child, particularly when he’s young. She’ll miss a lot of milestones. And seeing him but being unable to touch/hold him would be awful.

I feel way worse for her son. How confusing for him!

Let’s just hope she cleans up her act.

I know she brought this on herself, but it’s sad to see how her life has turned out…

Years ago she seemed like she would make it BIG! She had some smash singles and was engaged to “hottie” Dean Cain! What more could a woman want? Haha!

I hope she gets past all of this and can actually get her life back on track…

Hopefully, jail will straighten her out, permanently! The poor kid already has an abusive father, now his mom’s in jail…..sad…. :(

Maybe this sad situation will put a dent in the “celebrities get all the breaks with the judges” mentality.

Women with children get sentenced to do jail time every single day in this country for crimes committed, but most are not publicly known figures. This must be embarrassing for her.

I really hope that Mindy learns from this ordeal not only for her sake, but her son’s as well. I would hate for him to grow up with the idea that constant dysfunction is to be desired.

Who’s looking after her son ?

Sarah’s note: Her mom.

The victim here is her child.

Very sad to hear, hopefully she’ll figure her stuff out, so she can be there for her child later. :)

Quick Mindy! Play the pregnancy card like Foxy Brown and complain that you are suffering, etc. ;)

I feel so badly for her son.

How is it that she violates probation and gets a year and Lindsay Lohan violates probabtion and gets 1 day?? I understand she resisted arrest but dang maybe Lindsay needs this judge!

While I hate to see any mother away from her child, there comes a point where i start not to feel sorry for them (the mother)… Yes, it might be hard on them to be away from their child. But they should have thought about that before they ended up in jail, and some cases ending up in jail more then once. Maybe if the court starts to be a little tougher on parents who go out and party all the time and do drugs and drink then they will start to learn that it’s not all about them, and they can get the help they need before it comes to late.
