Dave Grohl stays in touch with Violet via iChat

Dave_and_violet1 When his wife Jordyn Blum was pregnant with his daughter Violet, 17-months, rocker Dave Grohl, 38, was able to discern that his daughter would go on to be quite a music connoisseur.  The couple played Mozart for Violet in utero, Dave recalled,

Then I said, ‘Let’s try some rock, [like] the Beatles.’ So we played ‘Taxman’ and she went berserk.

But when Dave introduced Violet to his own band the Foo Fighters?

There was absolutely no movement at all. I was like, ‘Wow, she has taste.’

Violet’s musical education has only continued since being born last April, with Dave delighting in teaching his daughter the finer points — and people — of hard rock.  She was also indoctrinated at an early age to the life of ‘rock star daughter,’ with Dave and Jordyn doing their very best to broaden Violet’s horizons with lots of new faces and places, and staying in touch with iChat when Dave is away.

Violet was immediately surrounded by so many people that she’s not afraid. I think it’s important for kids to be social and to expose them to stuff as soon as possible.

One face Dave clearly hopes Violet doesn’t see anytime soon is that of Paris Hilton – whom Dave called ‘lame,‘ among other things!

She’s more offensive to me than anything…a total raging, disgusting, rich, lazy party sl-t. I pray that my daughter will not turn out like her.

He has concerns for his daughter, whom he and Jordyn recently learned is in the 90th percentile forheight — she’ll probably grow up to be 5’7".

So her mom’sbeautiful, her dad’s a big rock star — you see where I’m going here?

Violet is the first child for Dave and Jordyn.

I’m really surprised that the comment Dave made about Paris is posted on this blog. I get that Dave is saying that is what he doesn’t want his daughter to be like but the language he used is quite offensive and I’m not even a Paris fan. If a reader tried to leave a comment like that about Paris (or anybody else) on this site, I think that it would not be posted. I get that it’s Paris but I think that standards should be the same regardless of who the post is about. Just my opinion.

Sarah’s note: You’re right, a comment like that would not be posted. However, we don’t edit direct quotes except to dash out certain swears. I will dash out the ‘slut,’ though, because personally I do find that word offensive.

um, dave, we ALL pray that your daughter doesn’t end up like paris.

as for the language used, hey, there’s no gentile way to put it. i don’t think he couldn’t have described her better.

Hey, Dave calls ‘em as he sees ‘em, Paris brought it on herself. TMZ.com posted a video yesterday of Paris coming out of a nightclub where she tripped in a puddle of water, someone shouted “Ew, you stepped in sewer pee!” and she can be heard saying “Oh my god I have, like, AIDS!” Yeah, she’s *real* special and we should all hope to raise our daughters to be NOTHING like her.

I used to play classical music for my daughter as well when I was pregnant and after I had her as well. I really believe what they say about classical music being beneficial to a child’s brain development. But music in general is a wonderful tool to use.

Dave doesn’t edit himself for anyone, and he’s obviously very correct in his assessment of Paris. But I’m more interested to hear about the other Foo baby who was born recently!

Sarah’s note: I wish we had more info! There’s a post down the page a bit.

I remember when that pic of Dave and Violet was first posted and thinking how beautiful she was. Dave certainly holds nothing back. On another note the FF’s new album comes out soon and the song “Pretenders” is awesome. (like the video too)

Dave should look at Liv Tyler, she’d alleviate his fears a little I think! Her dad is one of the most famous rock stars on Earth, and her mum used to be a catwalk model, groupie and Playboy Playmate. Yet Liv is one of the most pleasant, well-adjusted and dignified celebrities out there. And she’s 5’10″!
