Nosefrida: A different kind of nasal aspirator

HomepictureI don’t remember how in the world I came across this website, but about six months ago I found Nosefrida — a really, uh, let’s just say "different" kind of nasal aspirator.  My initial reaction was "What the heck?!"  But then I read the description on the website and I was more than intrigued.

After requesting one from the company wouldn’t you know it that my daughter, healthy breastfed kid that she is, never gave me an opportunity to use it!   But finally last month she picked herself up a nice summer cold and I was able to pull the little contraption out of hiding.

My first reaction after using Nosefrida for the first time: Where was this thing for the first 25 months of my daughter’s life?! It is amazing and does its job so well that my daughter actually asks for it by name ("Frida? Frida?" in a nice, Spanish accent while pointing to her nose).

Invented in Sweden by Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists, the doctor-recommended nasal aspirator has been used by Swedish parents for years. In fact, it must be widely used throughout Europe because my brother-in-law who lives in Spain knew exactly what I was talking about when I described it and said that they use it on my nephew already.

Basically Nosefrida is a plastic tube with a filter that you use with your own mouth to get the mucous out of your kid’s nose.  Sounds totally repulsive, I know, but with the filter in place you DO NOT end up sucking up any snot into your own mouth.  I point this out because, yes, I was terrified that that would happen!  Also, because of the filter, there is no risk of bacterial contamination so you won’t get the cold your child has.

Honestly, as odd of a product that this is, it is a wonderful one. It emptied Catie’s nose a million times better than the old bulb aspirator we had and there was not chance of damaging the inside of her nose since it doesn’t touch the lining of the nostril.

More information, including instructions, can be found on the Nosefrida site.

The product will run you about $15.00.  Get ready for winter and buy backup filters to have on hand so you don’t run out.

I agree, Nosefrida is so much better than other aspirators, my baby doesn’t exactly love it, but it works superfast…..
