Cate Blanchett's plans for this year: Settle down…and maybe get pregnant

In a new photoshoot and interview for W magazine, actress Cate Blanchett, 38, speaks about her plans for her family — husband Andrew Upton and sons Dashiell John, 5 1/2, and Roman Robert, 3 — which include both settling down and expansion. Cate, who spoke in June about the possibility of having another child, sounds like she’s made a definite decision.

We’re not going to wait forever [to have another baby]. God, I’d love it to be now. I’d love it to be next week.

Cate also reveals that the family will be moving back to Australia for the majority of the year, now that Dashiell is starting kindergarten full-time.

He’s five now. He needs to be settled and I respect that. In the past it’s always been just whatever has come up, and then one thing leads to another. Now, I’m going to have to plan things.

Do we have a different school system in Canada Vs. the rest of the world. you keep posting all these 5 year olds starting Kindergarten. My little girl is 5 and a half and started Grade 1 this year?

Sarah’s note: Here, generally, a child will start first grade when they are 6 and turn 7 at some point during the school year or during the following summer.

She is just stunning! I love her in every role she takes on!

I hope she has a little girl, just to even things out a bit!

Cate’s a really classy actress, just so refined and gorgeous I hope she has a daughter too! On the kindergarten thing, in Australia ‘Kindy’ is the first year of ‘big school’. Preschool is like 4 year olds and under. Primary school/big school is kindy to year 6. I started kindy when was 4 years old in the January (school year being January-December)and turned 5 in the April. As long as they turn 5 by August the 1st (I think from memory) of that year they can go to school. Some states in Australia may have variations of the names but thats the general thing in NSW.

elisabeth – A lot of places only let children into Kindergarten if they have turned 5 BEFORE classes start. So that means children with birthdays between class start times and the end of the calendar year have to wait until the following year to register.
Having a November baby I’m so glad I live in Canada since I couldn’t imagine having to keep her home another year. After preschool she was SO ready for Kindergarten.
