Update: Baby arrives for Jonny Moseley and wife

09/11/2007 at 11:40 AM ET

Update: People updates with more details. Full name is Jonathan William Moseley Jr. — as previously posted, they’re calling him Jack. He weighed in at 9 lbs, 2 oz, and was 21 inches long when he was born at 4:27 pm.

Originally posted September 6th: Jonny Moseley, an Olympic gold medalist in moguls, announced today that he and his wife, Malia, welcomed a son on Wednesday, September 5.  The couple named their first child Jonathan but will call him Jack. Both mother and son are ‘just great‘, reported Jonny.

When asked about his role in the labor and delivery Jonny gave credit where credit was due.

I was in there coaching her — helping her — but obviously she did all the work. I could see the dedication and pain tolerance you need to get through these moments.

When the 32-year-old was asked how witnessing his son’s birth ranked with his other achievements and accomplishments, the former The Battle of the Sexes host said,

I have the same feeling as if I just won something or landed a trick.

The couple announced the pregnancy in April.

I never understand it when people name their child a certain nam and then call him something different entirely. Is there any reasoning behind that?

Love the name Jack though and 9lbs that’s quite big!

He and his wife had a good sized baby there. Never heard of the whole Jack thing, but I’d rather call him J.J. or something like that. That’s me, though.

I hope they decide to show Jack soon. :)

"We weren't trying to have kids. We left it up to fate. I knew there was a possibility, but I was really excited. Even if you are trying, just to see a positive result is shocking!"
