LeAnn Rimes talks family plans

09/10/2007 at 08:36 PM ET

How many family and baby questions has LeAnn Rimes faced since she tied the knot with Dean Sheremet five years ago? So many that her new album, due Oct. 9, is called Family. That’s the only production for the time being as the country star has no immediate plans for kids yet.

Eventually. We really do want to. We’re trying to figure out when to fit it into our lives. My husband loves children, and so do I. We’ll start with one, and see where we go. But soon — soon enough.

Since she was a child star herself, LeAnn knows "the good, the bad and the ugly" that comes with show business, which she feels would give her an advantage should her children follow her footsteps. The 25-year-old would "definitely encourage, support and develop" her kids’ talents.

For me, being in this business at such a young age, I know the good, the bad and the ugly, so I feel like I would want my kid to be at least 18 years old before they jump into this, just so they have a good base, a good foundation and they have their education, and they’re able to make decisions on their own. Not that at 18, you’re able to make great decisions on your own. Even being in this business and growing up as fast as I did — 18 was still a hard time. Hopefully with the support of us — good parents and a good upbringing — if they have the talent, I’ll definitely encourage it, but wait until they get older.

Thats so rude of people to tell her that she must have kids and that “they’ve” been waiting so long. Its none of their business! What if she didn’t want kids? She’s only 25.

I think it’s nice that they’re not rushing into having children too young like alot of other people (celebrities included). Too many people these days see babies as fashion accessories, and not a responsibility as they should do. LeAnn and Dean have jumped way up in my estimation 🙂

voiceofreason: I agree that it’s rude for people to tell her she should have kids. However, I am confused as to why Leann is acting so confused by people’s curiosity in light of the fact that she said in an interview last year that she wanted to have a baby this year. If she had never said that people would be less likely to be wondering why she isn’t pregnant yet. It’s still rude to ask, but LeAnn bears some of the responsiblity here for publicly announcing her pregnancy intentions.
