Melissa and Tammy Etheridge talk about the joys of parenthood

In October 2006, singer/activist Melissa Etheridge, 46, and her wife Tammy Lynn, 32, welcomed twins, Johnnie Rose and Miller Steven. In a recent interview, Melissa spoke of the joy they bring to their lives.

They’re beautiful. Ten months old, just starting to walk and talk and get into the world and discover things. Every day is different and beautiful.

In a recent entry on her blog, Tammy echoed this joy and wrote about how much she loves being a mom:

Stretchmarks…are the road maps to my children’s hearts…I have the body of a woman who gave birth to twins. And wait and wait as I might…the day hasn’t come where I find flaws or ugliness in my maternal exterior. There’s cushion in spots (good for nap-taking and hugging the booboos away)…I am strongest in front of my mommy mirror, radiating love and being loved.

In addition to the twins, Melissa and Tammy share custody of Bailey, 10, and Beckett, 8, Melissa’s children from her previous relationship with Julie Cypher. 

Melissa recently performed at the Live Earth concert, and her next album The Awakening will be released on September 25th.

Now, this is a family I am proud of. Tammy Lynn sounds really sensible, and her priority is looking after their adorable kids. I have no problems with plastic surgery in celebrities (as long as they admit it)… sometimes people need a little help to be able to gain extra confidence in their appearance… but it’s really nice to see Tammy embrace all of mommyhood, and she put it in such a lovely manner.

I love these comments…especially after reading Charlize not wanting to look like a whale, Jaime Pressly working out for hours so soon after her baby desperate to get her body back, etc. It’s refreshing to hear the other side of it!

As someone who worries often about the changes that come with a pregnancy body, I am very envious of her attitude. I love the way she worded this. It’s really beautiful. I hope I can feel this positive about all the little changes. What an awesome quote.
