Madonna's adoption welfare official replaced after "compromising" position

09/04/2007 at 11:01 AM ET

Madonna, 49, and her husband, Guy Ritchie, 38, hit another snag in the adoption process of Malawian toddler David Banda, 22 months. Penston Kilembe, who is the director of Malawi’s child welfare services has been removed from the case on charges that he was getting "too cozy" with the couple. Officer Simon Chisdale will be replacing the previous official and will conduct the visit with Madonna and Ritchie over the next several days. A source says,

The whole thing is being looked at with fresh eyes.

Madonna and Guy began adoption procedures last October and David has been living with the couple and their children, Lourdes, 10, and Rocco, 7, in London.

What’s that old Dionne Warwick song? Oh, yeah: “Deja Vu.” I swear, it seems like every few weeks the same story is recycled about this adoption. Hopefully this all comes to an end soon and David and his family can get on with their lives.

I don’t understand why it’s so complicated.Isn’t it good that someone is adopting these children? Why are international adoption so complicated?I understand that you have to be very careful but still.

I really hope this will work out for them! And Ma74, I agree. It’s a good thing these children get stable homes! Why all the problems?

ma74?

Madonna adopted from a country where international adoption was NEVER before done!
She should have adopted from another country. She FORCED this adoption by paying to build a school or something in Malawi.

“She FORCED this adoption by paying to build a school or something in Malawi.”

How do you know?

It’s not true that she forced the adoption. She started building up communities there first. She saw David on one of her vistits later. Anyway… just let her adopt the baby already!

If you go into a country where they do not allow international adoptions and give them incentives and money and then you get to adopt a child, then Ill say thats a payoff and Madonna forced their decision.

I hate to say this. Your comment is laughable.

Though I’m sure it’s upsetting for them to have another setback I think this is a good decision. They don’t want any more rumours running around because they were too chummy with the official and that’s why they got to keep David.
