Gretchen Wilson's education inspired by her daughter

09/03/2007 at 03:14 PM ET

Country singer Gretchen Wilson announced plans to complete her high school education. The thirty-three year old “Redneck Woman” singer claimed her six year old daughter, Grace, inspired her to study for her GED, so she can secure a future for their family with, or without, a hit record.

I never had regrets until I had a child. I started realizing how important that was, how slim the chances were of my dream really coming true. And where would I be right now if they hadn’t come true [with] what kind of an education I have? And I wouldn’t really be anywhere. I’d probably be pouring drinks, just like I was before I got the record deal.

Gretchen said she hopes her fans will follow her lead and decide to focus on their education.

Anyone know if she divorced Grace’s father or if they were ever married at all?

Karen on

I remember reading an article about a month ago on either CMT or GAC talking about her being single. It said that she broke up with her long time boyfriend, who is the father of Grace a year ago.

Mom Said It

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
