Helena Christensen’s son Mingus is a chess prodigy

09/02/2007 at 05:30 AM ET

Danish supermodel Helena Christensen, 38, recently claimed son Mingus Lucien, 7 1/2, as a chess prodigy. She said the seven year old was asked to compete for the American national chess team.

We’ve just discovered he’s a great chess player. He went to his first tournament and came third out of 50 children and was asked to play on the American national team. He’s only played for two years. He already beats his dad.

Mingus’ father is actor Norman Reedus, 38. Norman and Helena split in 2003 after a long-term relationship.

How lovely that he’s so smart. Maybe when he’s older he, unlike his parents, will learn how to spell “Lucien” correctly.

I think it’s actually Mingus Lucian, as he was named after the jazz musician Charles Mingus and the artist Lucian Freud.

I love Helena Christensen, and her son is gorgeous! I wish she’d have more babies – she looked fabulous when she was pregnant.

Oh how exciting! I met Norman Reedus and his son once when they came to an event I worked. He was incredibly sweet and a caring father. Congrats to Mingus!

"It helps that other moms had said that once they had their babies, they forgot they were ever pregnant. So once my focus became the baby and not the pregnancy, it was a very easy decision."
