While some actresses opt out of motherhood entirely for fear of missing out on the part of a lifetime, Mary McCormack opted in, and seems to have no regrets about her decision. According to Mary — who has two daughters — Margaret, turning 3 next week, as well as 3-month-old Rose — being a mom takes precedence over anything Hollywood has to offer.
I have a full life in other areas. I’ve got two kids, a three-month-old baby, and a husband I dig, so I’m probably less competitive than I should be, work-wise. But I don’t know. I just feel like I have a nice career, because I have a career that, with a little hustle and a little searching, I can dig up some interesting work. I’m not invaded, and my privacy and my kids’ lives aren’t invaded, so I have a nice balance right now.
Still, achieving that balance can be tough, Mary admits. The former West Wing star will be making her return to the small screen in 2008, playing a federal marshal on USA’s new series Mary Sunshine, and the shooting schedule for the show is "really tough."
It’s really hard. But it was less hard before this TV show. This is a whole new challenge … But luckily, my girls are little enough that if I set up my trailer like its fun, they still think it’s fun.
Mary and her husband, producer Michael Morris, have been married since 2003.
