Yet at Kelly’s advanced age, she had better proceed with caution. The chance of her having a child with a genetic defect is much greater now than it was when she was younger.

It’s as if Jett doesn’t really exist. We caught a glimpse of him recently. But thats about it. They just tuck him away as if he doesn’t exist. Very sad.

If she is trying to get pregnant why should she mention all the things that are going against her…. Why does she need all that negative energy?!! Goodness, you should always hope for the best and try to maintain a positive attitude towards everything! It’s not irresponsible at all! What’s irresponsible is to base YOUR life on a celebrity; that’s just ridiculous!! Yes, clothes and things of that sort are influenced by celebrities but you should not be making REAL LIFE ALTERING decisions base on a celebrities’ influence.

It really shocks me how open they are about this, Regardless of age I don’t think I would be so open about this because it isn’t a given. And being older it is very less likely. Its her right but I just don’t understand telling the whole world about something so personal.

PSB: I know that children often look to celebrities as role models. But I would expect better than that from adults. Adults should have a strong enough sense of self that they can form their own view of life and the world without having to look to a celebrity as an example. I don’t think it’s fair to expect the celebrities to censor themselves in order to accomodate the members of the public who don’t have a strong enough sense of self to form their own opinions about things.

I also think it’s unfair to expect the celebs to censor themselves about certain topics when the rest of us are free to express whatever we want to without someone saying “You don’t have a right to say that because you’re setting a bad example.” I think celebrities deserve the same freedom. Afterall, here we all are on a public blog stating our opinions for all the world to read and none of us are having to censor ourselves because we “might set a bad example for someone else.” We’re free to spout off any opinions/thoughts we want to on here (respectfully of course) even if our opinions have no basis on fact, even if our comments are filled with bad advice, and even if we make statements about what worked for us that wouldn’t work for other people. And it’s up to each individual who reads the comments to decide whether they want to take that advice or believe that person’s opinions. I don’t sit around and worry if my comments are going to send someone else “the wrong message” and I doubt that the other people who post on here do either. So how can we expect more of others than we do of ourselves? It doesn’t seem fair to me.

personally, I like when celebs are open about their fertility issues(as in Kelly Coffey and Marcia Cross), BUT I do not think they HAVE TO BE! It is a personal decision and its really nobody’s business in the end. I identify with anyone going through infertility or miscarriages and celebs being open about it is refreshing, but we shouldn’t expect them to be if they choose to keep it private. That is their perogative.

Kate, you are absolutely right. I am not arguing about that – if people want to make uninformed decisions about pregnancy, it’s their own problem.

I just think that a person in the spotlight needs to have some sort of integrity when they make statements like this. They didn’t ask to be role models, but they are – a moral individual wields that power to bring attention to issues (the way Marcia Cross talked about donor eggs – w/out ever confirming what she herself did). Nobody is obligated to tell the truth, but I have no respect for celebs who do not – unless they are private individuals who are not commenting on their tries to conceive at all.

Just tell the truth or keep it to yourself. I feel the same way about plastic surgery – either don’t comment or say you had a face lift. Telling everybody within ear reach that you age well without help is kind of annoying.

It’s similar to the whole Nancy Grace debate – the educated few who have read up on fertility know that she must have used some help at her age, but I’m still annoyed that she is choosing to allow the majority of the world to think she got pregnant naturally. For somebody, especially in Nancy Grace’s position as a pundit and news source, it’s very disingenuous.
