Update: Bridget Moynahan and Tom Brady welcome a son

Update: Sports broadcaster Dan Dierdorf announced in the Patriot’s pre-game today that baby’s name is John/Jonathan. (Different CBB readers heard different things.) However, keep in mind that Tom and Bridget’s reps have so far refused to release additional information, and it seems to just be a spin-off of this morning’s Herald column. Tom did make it to the game this evening and is playing –  he actually got to NC on Thursday night for a team meeting, rather than still being in CA on Friday morning as the Herald reported earlier.

Update 10:40 am: Today’s Boston Herald Inside Track column rumors that the possible baby name is now Jonathan, that Tom is currently still in CA but will fly to NC for the Patriots exhibition game this evening, and that baby photos will be made available to magazines to quell paparazzi interest — but there will be no interview to go with the snaps.

Update August 23rd at 9:30pm: Rumor: In Touch reports that the baby weighed in at 7 lbs, 14 oz, and was 22 ¼ inches long. Bridget apparently did need to undergo a c-section after attempts to correct a transverse lie (when baby is positioned across the uterus instead of head down) were unsuccessful. Additionally, the tabloid reports that Tom missed the birth by just minutes.

Update August 23rd at 3pm: A source tells the Boston Herald‘s Inside Track that Tom and Bridget are considering ‘Irish-sounding’ names given their backgrounds, and that William seems to be a current favorite (despite its English roots).

Update 6:31 pm: "Both mother and baby are doing well," says Bridget’s rep.

Originally posted August 22nd at 6:28 pm: Actress Bridget Moynahan, 36, and Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, 30, welcomed a son earlier today at St. John’s Medical Center in Santa Monica. No details are currently available.

Bridget had been almost two weeks overdue — Tom left training camp in Boston on Wednesday for Los Angeles, but no word on if he (and his flowers) made it in time for the birth.

Finally!! I came here everyday for the last few weeks just to read the news about Bridget and the baby!
I’m pretty sure that little boy is gorgeous, with Tom & B as parents..

In a way it is bitter sweet for them. I feel bad that he has to run back 3000 miles to be with his team. She made it very hard for him to be a hands on Dad and for that, I am not happy with her. It is not obvious to all in how badly she wanted this baby and wanted to keep her man so she planned it? In any case, what is done is done and I am thrilled that the baby is heathy. At her age I have to admit, I was a bit concerned since her stomach seemed very weirdly shaped, but it seems all is well. I hope she takes this baby to New England to see his Daddy, if not, she will have regrets and her son will resent her for it!

I am one of the several who have been checking on here waiting to her this news. I never understood why every was so hard on Tom. He never denied the baby was his, he never talked bad about Bridget. All that happened was they didn’t work out as a couple, which is just as much Bridget’s fault as it is Tom’s. Having a child is not a reason to stay together IMO, I would rather have happy parents that aren’t together then parents who are together and are fighting all the time. None of us know what happened between these two but from what I have seen they have handled this situation amazingly well. I can’t wait to hear what they name their new baby boy!

Congrats to both of them! ITA with Monica, Tom deserves to be congratulated as well. I noticed that so many commenters are saying things like:

“I’m so happy for her!”

“Congrats to her!”

“Congratulations to Bridget Moynahan!”

and

“Finally she has her little man!”

What about him?! He’s the father, so people should be congratulating him and be happy for him as well. I know that situation was kind of weird, but in truth we don’t exactly what happened when/after they broke up. Also, at least he has been making comments about how he is looking forward to fatherhood and he has not pulled an Eddie Murphy and denied the child is his.

Anyway, since Bridget had a C-section, I am a bit surprised that they didn’t just wait to do the section until Tom got there (especially since it sounds like it was done because of positioning, not because of an emergency situation).

Sarah’s note: From what we heard, she did go into labor on her own and really had her heart set on a natural birth, but he just did not turn. If she was in active labor, there’s always the chance of heart de-cels, fetal distress, etc that can happen and perhaps it did end up that they said ‘we need to take the baby out now.’ It would have been nice if they waited, but maybe for whatever reason they couldn’t. Perhaps Tom was there after all. I wish we knew more, it’s all kind of running on rumor at this point.

If the baby’s name is john, I love it. John is a nice strong traditional boy name. I personally love normal strong boy names such as frank, john, joseph, etc, I’m not into the weird out their names people try giving their kids now. Exactly, every question will be “How is Giselle handling this? Are you two going to get back together? If not, are you (Tom) and Giselle going to get married? Bridget, how does that make you feel?” Etc. Better to leave the interview off. While I’d like to know the answers, only time will tell. I know if I were in that situation I would want to be left alone as much as possible.

And congratulations to them both, my son was head-up when I was in the early stages of labor, and they were going to have to reposition him. But luckily my MIL gave me advice to get into the bathtub on all fours, warm water running, and arch my back like a cat. I don’t know how it worked but when I went back to the hospital 1 hour later he was perfect!

Making a baby doesn’t make Tom Brady a man. Winning a Superbowl doesn’t make Tom Brady a man. Shelling out thousands of dollars to pay for a nanny doesn’t make Tom Brady a man. Jetsetting across the world does not make Tom Brady a man.

Getting up in the middle of the night to support the mother of his child as she breast feeds, makes him a man. Getting up in the middle of the night to change his son’s diaper or simply to comfort his son when he is crying, makes him a man. Providing emotional and physical support to the mother of his child makes him a man…

Only time will tell if Tom Brady will be a man.

I think its sad to judge someone you don’t know. Saying he isn’t a real man because of articles. when your not even bridget. I mean what if i said oh bridget is not a real women just because she gave birth means nothing we have to wait and see what kind of mother she is and if she supports the babys father and be a positive person in his and heer sons life. I mean that is insulting but since its tom its okay. I mean it can work between the two of them look at will , jada and will’s ex wife it can work

BOSTON (AP) -New England quarterback Tom Brady’s newborn son has the initials JET.
Actress Bridget Moynahan announced Tuesday the name of their son – John Edward Thomas Moynahan – saying Brady arrived in Los Angeles in time for the child’s birth last week.

“Bridget is very thankful for a happy baby, excited about being a mother, and very pleased that the father, Tom Brady, was able to be there for the birth,” publicist Gary Mantoosh told The Associated Press.

Moynahan and Brady split up late last year after a three-year relationship. Brady has been dating supermodel Gisele Bundchen.

Brady, 30, has led the Patriots to three NFL titles and is a two-time Super Bowl MVP. New England opens its regular season against the rival New York Jets on Sept. 8.

Mantoosh didn’t give any other details, including the size of the baby or whether Thomas was in honor of his father.

“Both mother and baby are at home, happy and healthy,” he said.

Brady flew to California for the birth and returned to his team a few days later for a preseason game.

Moynahan, 36, is a former model who has starred in films and television shows.

I think the fact that the last name of the child is Moynahan says it all in regard to who will be raising this child. It’s a fact acknowledged by both sides that Bridget’s NYC apartment was close to Gisele’s. That makes people raise questions such as, “did she move to LA to get away from Tom and Gisele?”. I don’t think Bridget and Gisele will be the next Will Smith’s ex and Jada Pinkett-Smith. Everything I’ve read just doesn’t point to that and I don’t think Gisele is classy enough for that. I don’t blame Bridget for moving to LA-Tom and Gisele are disgusting. Check out the Myspace page he has. At the top left hand corner it says “it’s a baby boy!” but if you scroll down you’ll see that it says that he “loves children, but not for me” . Therefore, I think we have every right to say that he will not be that involved in the child’s life.

Bridget is so classy. This woman will age well. She is sophisticated and carry herself well. She has a beautiful baby boy! He is too cute for words. She was sad before but I think all that is behind her as she looks at this little person who will be the center of her world. Tom Brady who?

I wanted to make one more comment on Tom Brady. He is a good-looking guy and seems to be a good guy. He deserves some a lot better than Gisele. I am not a fan of hers. To me, she’s trashy but trying to cover her trashiness with money and her modeling career. Her presence does NOT say “classy” like Bridget does.

I know that he and Bridget are over but come on, guy, you downgraded to Gisele??!
