Rumor: Ryan Phillippe concerned about Reese Witherspoon's relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal

The on-again, off-again relationship between Reese Witherspoon, 31, and Jake Gyllenhaal, 26, has apparently drawn the ire of Reese’s estranged husband Ryan Phillippe, 32, who — according to US Weekly — is attempting to set some limits on how much time Jake spends around his two children, Ava Elizabeth, 8 next month, and Deacon Reese, 3 1/2. 

An unnamed source is quoted by the magazine as saying that Ryan is "pissed about Jake" and that Ryan "didn’t want ‘that guy’ around their kids … and then made some crude Brokeback Mountain remark." A different unnamed source acquainted with Reese counters that the actress "doesn’t have Jake spend the night when the kids are around."

Reese and Ryan separated in 2006 after seven years of marriage.

Wow, as hurt as he is by the kids being around Jake, maybe he should deal with it. Is he really upset that Jake is around the kids too much or Reese?

It’s gotta be hard as a newly single mom or dad to see your kids having fun with your ex’s (or soon to be’s) new “friend”.

You know i have a really hard time believing this…first of all rumors are rumors–but more than that, for more than a year Reese and Ryan have not only co-existed for their kids but done it beautifully–I just don’t see Ryan saying something like this…they are bigger than this–and I always loved these “unnamed sources” LOL

And frankly, in the end, Reese and Ryan are wonderful parents as we’ve all seen and that’s all that matters =)

Natasha, the rumors started when Reese and Jake were photographed laughing and talking on the set of Rendition back in November. That sparked rumors that they were interested in each other, and there were a whole bunch of reported sightings of them together. Then it was said that they had broken up. Now they supposedly have reconciled, and the rumors started up again because there have recently been two sets of pictures of Reese and Jake driving around L.A.

I dont think she and Jake are together and if they are then maybe Ryan is upset because weren’t he and Jake friends? I’ve been pictures of them hanging out together before Ryan and Reese split up.

There have been credible rumors for years about Jake being gay – I think the “relationship” between Reece and Jake has been manufactured for the promotion of their movie. I also would not think Ryan would be commenting on the relationship to people (if it did exist), because both he and Reece have shown they are private and have tact. Anyway, it’s not like Jake is a drug addict – if your ex were going to be dating somebody, wouldn’t you want it to be a clean-cut family guy like Jake? I think this story is fake fake fake.

None of the rumors about Jake being gay have been credible. NOT A single one. Credible means a reliable source with first hand information and proof, not stories like “a friend of a friend’s cousin’s brother…” Most of the rumors have come from obnoxious bloggers or have been based off of pictures of Jake working out with male friends, or hanging out at the beach with the same guys over and over. People see a couple of pictures of folks doing things that most of us would consider not a big deal at all and BOOM, next thing you know ther person is a gay. So ridiculous.

I doubt this is true. IF it is, he has no right deciding what she should or should not do with her life. Sounds like jealousy on his behalf. If he has reason to worry, for example, if Jake is behaving inappropriate, then OK. Otherwise, butt out.

Why do you people (writers on the blog) put such stories out. Do you know nothing about magazines. They print LIES 90% of the time to get their magazines to sell. Don’t you get it? Thats why they say things like “an unnamed source” or “a close friend”. You should know better.

PSB, what credible rumors? Give me a break! Jake himself said he’s straight, till he says otherwise i believe him. Jake seems to be a good guy and if what Ryan said is true, he probably said it because he’s jealous. I read that Ryan’s back together with the woman he cheated on Reese with!

IF Reese and Jake are together and IF she is not letting him spend the night while the kids are at home, then I think Ryan needs to shut up. HE is the one who cheated on Reese with Abbie Cornish and I have seen numerous pictures of Ryan AND both kids with Abbie (who looks like a young Reese) so he’s taking the kids around Abbie the homewrecker. I think he’s jealous that Reese did not waste any time getting him out of her life after he left his Blackberry with Abbie’s racy text message out for Reese to find. So Reese has moved on…you made your bed Ryan, now get comfortable in it. I applaud Reese for not putting up with a cheating husband and for being a strong woman. Ryan has always come across as whiney and very jealous of Reese’s success. Does he really expect to be able to cheat on his wife and her not move on? Puh-leeeze!

I don’t believe this story either, nor do I necessarily believe Reese and Jake are a couple, but I do admit I would love it if they were. They seem to perfectly compliment each other in terms of personality and values, and I think Jake would make a wonderful stepfather for Ava and Deacon. I have heard rumors that Jake is gay, but I can’t say I’ve heard them from credible sources; it was more just a remark or two made in passing. But this is one Hollywood romance I do hope turns into something more.

Pinkroses, why are you saying that you’ve seen numerous pictures of Ryan and Abbie with both kids? I understand that you want to defend Reese, but don’t lie. The only time Ryan was ever photographed with Abbie Cornish was on the set of their movie, Stoploss. There have never been candid photographs of Ryan with Abbie, nevermind of Ryan, Abbie, and the kids. I’m a big fan of both Reese and Ryan (I like them equally), but, really, let’s be honest here. There is no proof that Ryan even cheated on Reese with Abbie.

Jake has been with his boyfriend for a couple of years anyway.

Also, preesi? You are wrong. Toothy Tile was around long before BBM ever came out. And having had a relationship with someone else over 2.5 ago does not mean anything at all (except that he may be bisexual instead of gay). Besides, even Ted Haggard and Rock Hudson were married.

I don’t think this rumor is true.

But even if it was, I actually agree with Ryan. I don’t think it’s a bad idea to keep significant others out of your children’s lives until things are really, really serious. I don’t think it would have a very good effect on a child to have a bunch of your parents dates coming in and out of your life. Children can get attached really easily, and they’re already adjusting to the divorce, and it would just add to their pain to get used to having another person being around and then to lose that person.

Agree about the Toothy Tile thing. Anybody who wants to know where some of the Jake is Gay rumors are coming from can go to eonline.com and look at Ted Casablanca’s column. He’s been a gossip columnist for 20+ years and does not make stuff up. He’s never talked about Jake by name, but calls him Toothy Tile in some blind vices. He has given so many clues throughout the years about Toothy, that almost everybody pretty much assumes it’s Jake. Obviously, this is not proof, but considering the source, I personally believe it.

Also, for those who wondered about Kirsten Dunst – a while back, Toothy was very upset about dumping his girlfriend of a few years because he loved her but just not in “that way”. Considering those two dated when they were quite young, I think it’s entirely possible that he just hadn’t come to terms with his sexuality yet.

Anyway, just answering this, because you guys asked where the rumors came from. I don’t care if he’s gay or straight – I love Jake! However, pairing gay stars with straight ones for PR purposes when they have a movie coming out together is the oldest Hollywood story. They’ve been doing this since Valentino starred in silent pictures. I just think the story is fake, regardless of Jake’s rumored sexuality.
