Heidi Klum on the end of naps and why 2007 is a sad year

15911pcn_klum01_cbbModel Heidi Klum, 34, currently making the rounds promoting Victoria’s Secret’s latest creation, spoke with the hosts of Good Day LA about a range of topics, including one most moms can relate to — the end of the nap.

Our daughter [Leni], at 3 years old, doesn’t nap anymore. She’s in swimming lessons, she wants to play tennis with me, she wants to jump around, pick flowers. She wants to be occupied all the time. It’s just different!

Definitely Leni, she’s up, she wants to learn and she’s like, ‘I want to learn this and I want to know that.’ She’s pretty amazing. She almost learned how to swim in four lessons. We’re very proud of her. [It's strange, going from] seeing your kid walk for the first time and now she’s diving into the pool.

That’s not to say that little brothers Henry, 22 months, and Johan, 8 months, get left out of all the fun.

Our house is like Toys R Us — huge playground outside, trampoline, slides, the swings. [Parenthood] definitely has changed our home a lot in the lastthree years. When you have a newborn it’s different; when they get olderthey want to be entertained. They want to do things all the time.

Heidi also spoke about the media attention on her body after three kids — and shares that yes, pregnancy, childbirth, and nursing changed her too. However, she feels it was all worth it.

People always say your body changes a lot after you have kids — and it does! But it’s worth it for me. The children are more important than myself. But I have not forgotten about myself. I enjoy my life more than ever now that I have this big family that I always wanted.

Joking about her consecutive 2004, 2005, and 2006 deliveries, Heidi laughs,

[2007] is a very sad year — I’m not pregnant!

Awwwww don’t worry, Heidi, 2007 is not over yet ;)

I’ve always though Heidi was pretty “normal” and this is why. I’m not the girlie girl type and am not a fan of those who are…i.e. Paris Hilton, skinny jeans, purse dogs, etc…so the fact that I think a model would be a great person is big :)

Wow 3 seems rather young to stop naps. I napped up until first grade and now my 4 year old daughter naps 2 hours after lunch. I think is is easier on the parents and better for the child to keep the napping for as long as possible.

it’s sooooo sweet, the way she talks about her kids. she just sounds so proud of them (who wouldn’t be, her kids are adorable)

Apparently I rarely napped, even before my first birthday. I was a feisty kid who always wanted to be part of the action. My little bro, on the other hand, was a chubby wubby toddler whos favorite activities included eating and dozing.

We both turned out OK:)

Also, those three babies are dolls. I was sort of hoping for a fourth pregnancy for Heidi, too.

Don’t worry I’m sure Heidi will have number 4 in 2008!

i can relate to Heidi as my son who is about 3 1/2 rarely take naps anymore and hasn’t since he was about 2 1/2. Of course it is easier on the parents when they nap but getting a wired 3 1/2 year old to try and take a nap isn’t so easy LOL

Does anyone know if Heidi talk German to her kids ?

Sarah’s note: Yes, she’s said they know both German and English.

Heidi seems very sweet and like a good mom.I don’t think she will have anymore babies, at least not anytime soon.

I am lucky – my 4 year old will still nap (knock on wood!). My one year old is nearing the end of the two-naps-a-day stage, though. :(

my daughter napped longer than either of my boys… but right at 3.5, her naps started making her not sleep well at night (she’d not fall asleep till all hours or wake up during the night)

So it was time to end it.

My boys both stopped before they were two… nothing you can do about it sometimes.

Every kid is different… because my mil and great aunt each had one kid who almost never napped once they were one and then a child who took two naps a day till kindergarten… my mil also had 3 that were in-between… napped till around age 2-3.

The best bet is to go by the needs of the child.

My daughter has always needed A LOT of sleep otherwise she’s cranky during the day. She was still napping when she went into Kindergarten at 4y10m. However, she was in the afternoon class which interfered with her napping schedule so she was forced to cut them out. She wasn’t a happy camper for MONTHS when she finally adjusted. She’s 6.5 years old now and still sleeps 11-12 hours every night.

I am soo thankful that my 2 year old little girl still takes two naps a day especially since she wakes me up at 530 am every morning! She is also very active wanting to go here and there! I hope heidi has another baby I think she will have another in 2008!
Also I want the secret to her gorgeous post baby body!
