Kevin Federline focused on being 'the best parent he can be'

With his divorce from Britney Spears, 25, final, Kevin Federline, 29, is now focused on being ‘the best parent that he can be,’ his attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, told The Associated Press in an interview on Tuesday.

Mark continued by saying that Kevin is going to give his children, Sean Preston, 22 months and Jayden James, 10 months, as normal of a life as possible, out of the media spotlight.

When they are with him, he is going to shield his children from unwanted media attention. You will not find a picture of Kevin parading with the children out in a public place. He’s focused right now on being the best parent that he can be.

Mark also explained how Kevin faces demands that the average father does not have to face such as needing a nanny and security guards when he takes the children out in public, which he adds is a huge out of pocket expense. He added,

There are people you have to pay so your kids can pretend they’re like everyone else. When you are a celebrity parent, there are financial dynamics that others not familiar with it can’t understand.

Still, Mr. Kaplan wants to make clear that Britney and Kevin will not be engaging in a war of worlds, and plan to keep custody issues private.

He doesn’t want to do anything that would be perceived as taking her down a peg. His goal is to keep things between him and Britney private. There’s a proper forum to discuss issues with a co-parent. That place is not in the public eye.

Kevin and Britney married in a secret ceremony in September of 2004 and their divorce became final this week.

Also coming out in defense of Britney after negative tabloid coverage this week is her former assistant Alli Sims, who tells People,

She’s a wonderful mom and she is so hands-on…Britney loves those babies to death. And they adore her.

did anyone else have an uneasy feeling when reading this quote?

I think if the boys stay with Britney and she doesn’t get her act together, that quote will ring true in the end for those boys.

He’s paid to be “the best parent he can be”. For this “job” he receives $15000 each moth, from Britney’s money, from her work. Be a man and pay for your kids expenses but I guess this is an impossible thing to do because the only work he knows is “partying” at the Playboy mansion or whatever.

I’m sorry, but his attorney is not going to convince me that KFed is the better parent. I think he and Brit BOTH have isues they need to deal with. Period.

I don’t understand why when celebrities have pictures of them out with their children it is “parading” them around. They are people too, and “normal” people can take their kids out in public as much as they want and it is not seen different. I find that attitude so strange. And, I also don’t think he NEEDS a nanny to take the kids out, he has two hands, to push a double stroller, which they can both sit in…*shakes head*

I don’t think Kevin can win really. I know he was always seen out partying when he and Britney were married and I too used to shake my head at that. But instead of focusing on what he did a couple of years ago, can’t people respect him for what he’s doing now and has been doing for quite some time. I agree the comment about parading the kids around didn’t sound too good, going to the grocery store or something with them is a normal activity, not an attempt to “parade them.” Maybe that came out wrong, who knows. We condemn fathers on here who don’t want to be an active part of their childrens lives and here he fought for custody. Shar has nothing but good things to say about him as a parent. We don’t hear about him in tabloids partying or doing stupid things anymore like we do about his ex other half. Give the guy a break, people talk trash when he’s partying and they talk trash when he says and shows he wants to be a good Daddy. Again, I don’t think he can win with the public.

Katiana, well said! When Brit goes out with the kids its considered “parading” them around. And she holds her babies, well, one at least. But, someone will find fault with that. If she had them in a stroller someone would say she should be holding them. Are Ben and Jen “parading” Violet around when they take her out every day to the Farmers Market or the park?? How about Gwen and Gavin “parading” Kingston all over the world?? Give me a break! I will never like KFed. What has he ever done for his kids anyway??? Take care of them (with Lynne’s help and of course a few nannies) when Brit was forced into rehab?? Um…he is their father…shouldn’t he take care of them?

I am really hoping Brit can get it together. But, I doubt the media will ever portray her any other way than she is portayed now. Even if she were to be the best mother in the world. I don’t think she can win regardless.

I don’t know Britney, but she comes off as being a very self-centered person. I’m sure she loves her children and I feel bad that they all have to live with such public scrutiny. I don’t understand why she wouldn’t want to move away from the limelight for awhile, dress less conspicuously and give her kids some normalcy.

As for K-Fed, I can’t say anything negative about him. Has he behaved any worse than Brit has? Any less responsible with the kids?

LaMama, Britney can’t move away from California because according to her custody agreement with Kevin, neither one of them is allowed to take the kids out of the state without written permission from the other.

There are a lot of pictures with Britney and the kids ouside the dance studio or fast food. There are pics from the park, going to the pet store, beach, church, playing with Sean’s Cadillac etc. There are hundred of pictures with Britney and her kids together.

Kevin has not been such a dotting dad to Shar’s kids, so I do not see how he would be better than Britney to their kids.

Remember, the guy has two other kids that he is not fighting to take care of. Any ideas why?

I generally have rather low opinion of Kevin, not that I have a high one of Britney. I feel bad for their kids – they deserve loving home not a freak show.

I have nothing against kevin, he has actually kept more of a low profile than britney lately. Not saying britney is a bad mom, but nobody knows if kevin is either. Shar has said he is a good dad, so she should know more than anybody else.
