“Please note that use of covers void car seat’s manufacturer warranty.”

Thank you for including this information in your post.

Why does using a cover on the car seat void the warranty?

- Lynn on

I was told by a carseat techician that any product added to the carseat voids the warranty because the manufacturer did not test the carseat with those items. If you were in a wreck and the carseat failed, the company would claim it was because of the added seat cover (head rests, ect), not because of the carseat.

I’m sure no one really cares, but that shirt is Gymboree. We just got it for five bucks on clearance last weekend :)

Thank you, thank you, thank you for finally including the warning about carseat covers. Everytime I’ve seen an aftermarket carseat accessory on your site I’ve posted about how they void the seat’s warranty and release the manufacturer of all liability if the seat should fail in a crash. Yes, these are cute covers but it’s not worth your child’s safety.

My son has those same pediped shoes… love them but he falls down on slick floors because they have no traction on the bottom.

About the carseat, I made a carseat cover for my son’s carseat and I don’t see how it would effect how the carseat works. The plastic carseat itself and the straps are what matters and more importantly, the way it is installed. More padding, less padding, different color material… that should NOT matter. It’s just a way for the carseat companies to get out of trouble.

I’ve wondered about those covers since I was thinking of getting one for my son’s car seat. What about the car seat covers like these that say they do not interfere with department of transportation safety regulations? Do you know if the warranty is still void by the manufacturer?

carseat covers are made specifically to meet federal standards for not being flammable (there are chemicals in the fabric that meet standards set by federal regulations) and of course, it’s made to fit the seat a certain way.

Any cover or accessory not made by that carseat company and approved for use with the seat in question is not allowed.

If you want more info, contact your carseat company.

This is a car seat cover from Hot Toddies Baby Gear http://www.hottoddiesbabygear.com which was purchased from Babystyle.com. The cover is less restrictvie than a sweater or jacket and many mroe stores are carrying car seat covers (just as they carry the Bundle Me.) It’s a great product that allows parent to refresh a car seat rather than buy new for each child.

I wouldn’t recommend any stroller made by Baby Trend. I have had three strollers from baby trend. My large coach I received from my baby shower, broke after three weeks. The mid-size stroller identical to the one Neal is pushing, the wheel squeaked terribly and when you hit any bumps, the stroller jults forward, so not safe. And I also had a light weight folding stroller that my daughter used for about a month until the material actually started to tear and then ripped completely. My daughter is only 12 months old and all of this happened. I received all three strollers at my baby shower because I requested them. They were cute and a reasonable price. But they don’t last long!

I think the issue isn’t actually that the cover impedes safety but, that legally, should an accident occur and your baby injured or worse, the manufacturer’s hold no responsibility because in essence, their product was tampered with. I know that’s not something people immediately think of after an accident but, God forbid something happen and you needed money from the manufacturer, you wouldn’t have a case.

This guy is a great actor, one of my favorites so give him some slack, maybe they are just trying to get the sun out of the baby’s face or uv rays from getting to the baby. I think they are responsible enough to take care of their baby without all of you criticizing them.

I have a Hot Toddies toddler car seat cover over my Britax Marathon and not only does it look fabulous, it keeps my daughter cool in the hot car. I found it on the honest baby web site and the cover does not interfere with safety regulations.
