Gymnast Dominique Moceanu and husband expecting first child

Olympic gold medalist gymnast Dominique Moceanu, 25, and her husband, Dr. Michael Canales, have announced that they will welcome their first child early this January. The couple have said that they are excited and plan to stay in Cleveland where she teaches gymnastics and he is a foot and ankle surgeon.

We are so excited. Mike and I have talked about starting a family for so long. It’s really a dream come true. We love it in Ohio and look forward to raising a family here. Bringing a precious new life into this world is the ultimate achievement – and we can’t wait!

Seeing her married and expecting a child make me feel very old. My oldest daughter was 6 and obsessed with entire ’96 Olympic team and gynmastics. It seems like such a long time ago…

Oh my goodness, this makes me feel old! I turned 9 the summer she won the gold medal and was living in Atlanta, so I was obsessed with the team. I can’t believe she’s married with a baby on the way. I wish her all the best.

I’m with everyone else on the “this makes me feel old” bandwagon I remember LOVING watching her in the Olympics, and her making a guest appearance for our gymnastics team when she was only 8 or 9.

Oh, and how appropriate is it that a gymnast marry a foot and ankle surgeon! I wonder how they met, and if it had anything to do with her having an injury?

OMG “little piggy” is gonna be a mamma???? My daughter was obsessed with her and the rest of the Mag 7 back then!!! Dominique was my favorite gymnast to watch back then and aside from Nadia Comaneci, was my fave gymnast of all time. Soooo happy for her!!!
