Christie Brinkley and daughter Sailor at the opening of a boutique

Model Christie Brinkley, 53, was one of the first to see the new Styled By Me Barbie doll boutique in NYC with daughter Sailor, whose 9th  they were celebrating. Sailor brought along five friends and they all spent their time with their Barbie dolls while mom took pictures. Sailor’s father is Christie’s estranged husband Peter Cook. Christie also has daughter Alexa Ray, 21, with Billy Joel and son Jack, 12, with Richard Taubman.

Sailor is quite big for 9yrs old.

- gianna on

Sarah? Christie made Ricky Taubman sign over all rights to son Jack and he is legally no longer Jacks father. Jack was adopted by Peter Cook and so you can remove Rickys name and just say PETER is Sailor and Jacks father, cause he is.

Sarah’s note: Please email Kaisa, who wrote the post — she can fix it for you. :) The author’s name and email is underneath the title of the post, and they’d be the ones to address your corrections to (unless I wrote the post!).

Aw looks like Sailor is going through the ackward I’m going to be a teenager phase. I remember geting like that then shooting up in height and getting skinny. I wonder if she will be super tall? I wasn’t tall but I was such a little midget that when I did shoot up it was like yes I am finally the height of my friends and then they shot up and I was left in the dust haha. I hated that age though right before I got chubby and felt so ackward. I feel like its happening younger and younger now though. I was about 11 but I know with my younger cousins and the kids I babysit it seems to happen at around 8 and 9.

- Bren on

I also went through an awkward phase from 9-13. I am SOOOO glad I wasn’t a celebrity baby!

Still, I think that unless there is an underlying medical issue, parents should make every effort to help their children shed the baby fat once they’re this old. She’s more likely to develop juvenile diabetes, a lifelong battle with her weight, and a slew of other health issues.

- sarawara on

I think that comments about a child’s weight are unjustified. I have worked with children with eating disorders and you would be amazed at the number of high profile mom’s who barely let their kids eat, I remember one child being told she was only allowed to eat fruit for 2 meals a day so she stayed skinny – she was 10.
Children grow at different rates. Some children’s hormones actually cause them to be bigger especially at this age.
What a beautiful picture of a mother and daughter.

- K on

I would just like to say, children like adults come in different sizes. Yes healthy food is important but weight can also be because of metabolism and hormones.
Some of the thinnest people eat a lot more than those who struggle with the weight!

Once again, I can’t believe the comments on this site. I’ve always loved the CBB for not allowing catty or insulting comments but even with the comment policy being reinforced, things haven’t really changed much. I know there is so much crap on the internet, but I just always expect more when I come here. I don’t even want to read posts anymore because I’ll be subjected to glancing at the comments and I can usually guess what they are going to say…something negative…it’s like people look for something to pick on.

Most of the people who post at this site are the most judgmental people I’ve ever seen!! It’s like everyone comes here to do some armchair parenting…either that or suddenly everyone is an expert on how to raise a child they’ve never met. It’s sad that celebrity parents and family members have to come here to defend their decisions on everything from how they dress their child to why they are giving birth a certain way. These children don’t ask to be in the public eye. Could you imagine being 9 or 10 years old or your 9 or 10 year old getting online to see that people who’ve never met you are insulting your appearance or your weight? It’s one thing to insult the celebrity, but to do it to their child is uncalled for.

- Gab on

Let me just say I’m a little disgusted that someone would make rude and inappropriate comments on a child’s weight. No wonder there are so many girls who have eating disorders. I thought CBB was starting to be more stringent with their comments. Commenting on a child’s weight is, in my books, a definite no-no.

There are so many people in this world who can be the healthiest and fittest people, but they can’t shed the pounds. A friend of mine is quite large in high school, yet she was a strict vegetarian, and was one of the top members of the rowing team and amazingly healthy. She was just a big girl. She had been to the doctors, and they all said that everything was functioning properly and that as long as she was comfortable the way she was, then there was no problem.

Leave Sailor alone. As her mother, and having access to the best medical care, Christie probably has everything under control.

Sarah’s note: We are most definitely being more strict, and there’s comments on this post that were not put live to the site. I discussed the two comments that seem to be causing problems — about her being ‘big for her age’ and possible future health issues — with Danielle, and they were removed.

We also agree that the constant ‘pick pick pick’ in the comments is getting old and is really not conducive to the conversations we’d like to be having.

- Devon on

I completely disagree that Sailor and her parents should have her weight under control at this age! At 9, her hormones are going crazy and she is very likely to grow out of it. And so what if she doesn’t?? She is a beautiful little girl. Let’s not put all this pressure on her.

I was a slightly chubby, solidly built girl who was criticised by my mother for having chunky legs and a little pot belly. I grew up thinking I was fat and it has been a constant struggle to overcome that. I look back at pictures now and realize I was a completely normal looking girl. I hope Sailor has her mom’s love and support and will grow up happy and healthy without a ridiculous complex.

- Lindsay on

WOW…Sailer is FAT! I am very surprised, especially since her Mom is a fitness buff. CHristie needs to watch what that girls eats and run her around the block a few times. Geez.

- KarenS on

I think that comments about a child’s weight, be it “goodnatured” or not, should just be totally off-limits.
I looked way too skinny as a child, to the point of looking a bit ill, even though I ate normally. And I remember each and every comment. I’m 40 years old now, and with a very average weight, which I’m grateful for.
And yes, that goes for the “good-natured” ones too, sometimes they hurt even more. They totally screwed up my early teenage years. They were hell.

- Ann on

She’s fifty-three? Holy smokes.

- Maria Bella on

That sounds like a really fun Birthday party!!! I wish they had all these things when I was a kid, stuffy bear, style a barbie… I had to make my barbie’s clothes with my moms old sewing scraps if I wanted to pick her clothes…

Christie has always been gorgeous, but I think she is getting better with age…

- Jillian on

How sad to have to weed through these comments. The very first thing I thought of when reading the post and seeing the picture was how gorgeous Sailor is. I see a blonde hair, bright girl. Her name fits her! And how exciting for her to have that kind of Barbie party. I mean, c’mon her and five of her friends?! I bet they had a ball!!

- Mandii on

I am really glad you removed the mean comments about Sailor!
What a great family!

I agree – Christie’s 53 – WOW!!

- LL on

Thanks CBB! Sailor is a beautiful girl and looks just like her mum! Even though Christie is crouching down, Sailor is a tall girl. I wouldn’t be surprised if she grows like a weed once she hits puberty, I know I did. I was 5’2 FOREVER then when I hit 14 I shot up to 5’8 in like 6 months. My mum was so shocked since she thought I was going to be short forever.

At 9 years old, she is doing exactly what she should be doing: having a fun Barbie filled birthday with her friends. Happy B-day Sailor!

- Devon on

I agree that the name Sailor fits her perfectly!! What a baby-doll…. and Christie….. YOWZA!!!!

- Campbell on

I think the girl is adorable, look at her! The second things I notice is the weight, so what. She is 9 she’ll grow out of it. People these days, too obsessed with weight and image. I’d love to have her as my little sis, Alexa is lucky!
By the way, I love the pic the more I look at it, such a gorgeous mom/daughter pair! They look like a family you’d love to have as friends!

- Sophie on

Has anyone thought about what this poor little girl has gone through with her parents ugly public divorce and now these insensitive comments? I applaud her mother for always keeping her head up high and remaining so gracious through her very public trials. It is clear that she loves and adores her children and I pray that they get ALL the happiness that they truly deserve!

- Robin on

I think Sailor looks great! My 11year old is the same way, their just growing! more then likely she’ll be tall like her mom.

- Kristin on

I don’t know what to say.

I’m a bit on the fence with some of these comments because I know a little girl the same age battling her weight and it has been an ongoing issue since she was a toddler and it is related to her endocrine system (hormones) and not what she eats.

It is sad that our society is so appearance and weight obsessed and that we cannot simply look at people without assessing their situation and conjuring up ideas. That being said, we cannot bury our heads in the sand about childhood obesity and the excessive and dangerous use of hormones in the food children eat (dairy and meat products).

I think that this particular post is not the forum to discuss these issues and simply I wanted to comment on what an admirable job Christie has done raising her children who appear to be very balanced. She is a strong woman and it’s clear that Sailor is a happy girl. I wouldn’t have noticed anything amiss with her appearance and find her simply lovely.

Peace Out

- yaosa on

Not every celebrity baby is going to grow up to be swimsuit model or even going to be Gerber-baby cute. I was really disgusted with some of the comments about Sadie Sandler, and now on this post too. Celebrities have chosen the limelight, but their kids didn’t. Some of those kids are going to have awkward years, bad outfits, bad haircuts, or simply look “average.” Please think about if these were your kids or kids you knew in your neighborhood–would you be this judgmental and spiteful? Don’t hold them to a higher standard just because their parents make the 50-most beautiful list. Appreciate them for who they are.

- wavybrains on

I hate to read comments about a childs weight. She a beautiful young girl and children should never have to here negative words about their weight or appearance. I myself have a 9 year old little girl and it upsets her when she hears people talking about her weight. How sad that people have to judge little girls like that.
Sailor is absolutely beautiful just the way she is :)

- Joanne on

Man! I wish I looked that good at EITHER of their ages! What a fun birthday, if I lived there I would surely take my daughter for a Barbie party! I bet they had a blast! What a nice way to spend quality family time together! THAT is what is important!

- sandy on

Christie is a ho for having three children with THREE different fathers. Especially the last two… 12 and 9, three years between a breakup and new baby to new relationship and new baby???

Come on now.

- Cara on

Christy is absolutely stunning and a great Mother, she seems like a pretty good person actually. I feel so sad that this family went through that sordid affair deal with Sailor’s father. Had no idea that Taubman signed over fatherly rights to Jack. I find that really weird for any parent to do.

- Hollister on

I love the name sailor! What a beauty! I was going to name my baby sailor if he was a girl, but he wasn’t :)

- brannon on

Sailor is a cutie pie!!!

- daphneesmith on

I think that “Barbie” gives many girls a complex about weight and body shape.

- Hollister on

Woah I only commented on her weight because someone wrote that she looked big for a 9 year old. I don’t think she looks to bit I think she is just going through her pre growing spurt phase that most children go through. I don’t find her to be “fat” at all. I think she looks like a normal healthy 9 year old. So I hope no one was referring to my comment. I just see how awkward that stage was for me and think she looks super cute!

- Bren on

I didn’t realize she had 3 kids with 3 different men.
