Milla Jovovich on eating for two and making changes for baby
Actress Milla Jovovich, 31, who’s expecting a baby girl with fiance Paul W.S. Anderson in November, poses for the August issue of InStyle UK, speaking frankly about the conception of her daughter and how food has become her only vice. Milla explains that while she and Paul weren’t exactly trying for a baby, they weren’t preventing one either.
It wasn’t planned…but I wasn’t on the Pill either. It’s 90% a girl. I know, I’m in for it, especially if my own relationship with my mum says anything.
Once pregnant, Milla gave up her usual vices of champagne and cigarettes, and traded them in for food.
I used to smoke cigarettes, drink champagne — I was a big champagne person — but now eating is the only crutch I have left. I gained 22 lbs last month! I have a very addictive personality. They say you’re supposed to gain 30 lbs when you have a baby and I’m nearly there already! All these stories you see on TV — ‘I eat when I’m upset!’ — I totally get that now.
Other changes for Milla include being unable to commit to film work, which she was initially feeling dejected about, but has come to understand.
I just gave up a Paul Verhoeven movie this summer, which I’m very upset about. Whatever. I mean, I couldn’t have a better reason to cancel. [Lifts shirt to show belly bump.] In three weeks, it’ll have ears! That means I can start playing her music. Apparently, they respond really well to classical, but I’m going to try classic rock too, like Bowie, Joni Mitchell, or Jimi Hendrix…
