Vanessa Trump talks about pregnancy and the family legacy
In a new interview with PoshCravings.com, model Vanessa Trump opens up about life with Kai Madison, her 2-month-old daughter with husband Donald Trump Jr. and the first grandchild for Donald Trump Sr. Vanessa said that both she and Don Jr. "were raised in high-profile families and learned the value of working hard and giving back."
The couple, whom Vanessa describes as traditional, opted not to find out the sex of the baby. When it came time to decorate the nursery — a task she urges expectant moms to tackle early in their pregnancies to alleviate frustration and stress in the third trimester — Vanessa decorated with matte white walls, a soft white carpet, and hand-painted, custom-designed cribs from PoshTots for both her New York apartment and a country home.
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved teddy bears, so I incorporated that into the theme of the nursery. I wanted the nursery to be bright yet clean … The furniture I selected has a classic, antique look. After Kai was born, I added the appropriate pink colors and decor with wall art, lamps and linens.
On baby weight: I will go back to modeling and acting. I have been very conscious of my health and my weight. When I was pregnant, I worked with a trainer to maintain strength and to ensure a healthy pregnancy. I also tried not to do rigorous routines and to rest during the day. Don and I cook a lot and always try to eat healthy, and now that Kai is here, we plan to keep that routine intact. I also have a post-pregnancy fitness trainer who I’m working with to get back in shape.

On the biggest surprise of pregnancy: I didn’t expect to be so tired. People told me that in the beginning you have a lot of energy, but I was exhausted all along and had to force myself to take a rest.
On raising babies in New York City: I was born and raised in Manhattan. I feel that it is a fantastic experience to grow up in a city with such culture and diversity. While I was raised in the city, we always had a country home so you had the best of both worlds. I think that’s very critical for children to have the outdoor experience out of the city as well.
On her preferences in maternity-wear: Liz Lange is fantastic. She knows how to cut the clothing so that it doesn’t just look like oversized, reproduced maternity clothes. Julie Chaiken is another designer that I wore a lot during my pregnancy. I do think there still needs to be more designers creating maternity wear, but for most of my pregnancy, I was able to wear my favorite designers such as Luca Luca, BCBG, Reem Acra and Diane Von Furstenberg.
Vanessa’s maternity ‘must-haves:’ I couldn’t live without Clarions extra firming lotion. Mustela products are also a favorite.
