Sarah Jessica Parker talks about James Wilkie to Elle

In a new interview with Elle magazine, Sarah Jessica Parker said her 4 1/2-year-old son James Wilkie is increasingly aware of his face-time with his Emmy-award-winning actress mom.  Sarah said she tries to be home to tuck James in at least 4 nights a week "and if I’m not, he’s not letting me get away with anything."

The other night, I was sitting with him on the steps before Matthew and I went out to the theater, and he looked at me and said, ‘Mama, this has got to stop.  Go upstairs and take that dress off.’

James is the first child for Sarah and her husband, actor Matthew Broderick.

4 times a week? That’s sad. I realize she’s a star, but her son should take first priority. That means that half the time, that boy has some stranger nanny tuck him in, and he can’t say good night to his mommy.

I know, I was pretty sad about that, too. In all honesty, we can’t judge because we don’t know, but, it seems a bit weird considering SJP doesn’t seem to be working on any tv or movie projects.

That aside, precious comment from a gorgeous little boy!

She may not be there 3 times a week to tuck him in, but why assume he has a nanny tuck him in? He’s got a Dad too in the house.

I guess I just don’t think its such a big deal – if she spends enough quality time with him at other times of the day. There are plenty of parents who can’t be there every night to tuck their kids in; maybe they have second jobs, or night jobs. From a mother who stars in a broadway show to a father who has a night shift driving a bus – parents don’t always have 9-5 jobs and their kids can still grow up feeling loved and cared for.

You see her in pictures with her child all the time. I certainly don’t think that she should be judged if she and her husband go out two or three nights a week to dinner or the theatre. Because she doesn’t have a 9 to 5 job, I’m sure she’s able to spend more time with her child during the day than some working mothers are able to.

I’d love to know the brand of her dress. Anyone?

I don’t think it’s fair to judge Sarah just because she’s not with her child every waking second of the day – a lot of parents take time throughout the week to have alone time, what difference does it make if that happens at night or during the day.

And I’m confused about the first comment on here about the nanny being a stranger – I highly doubt that the nanny is a stranger to James. Why would the nanny be a stranger? I’m sure James knows the nanny by now.

And furthermore, how does anyone know that she’s not working some of the time when she goes away at night? Part of the job of a celebrity is to appear at certain social functions to do publicity for their latest project. Sarah has several projects in the works right now, including a clothing line and several movies in the works. I see nothing wrong with her taking time to either promote those projects or to spend time with her husband or both, whichever it is.

Oh my gosh I’m laughing so hard at James’ comment! What a doll!

I think that comment is hilarious as well. Sarah Jessica seems like a wonderful mother and I think it’s great that her son is so honest and open with her.

I think it’s great that Sarah and Matthew spend so much time as husband and wife apart from just parents. I think most moms get so caught up with their kids that they forget they are also wives. Maybe this is one of the reasons they’ve had such a successful Hollywood marriage.
And she is always photographed with him during the day. I’m sure he knows he is very much loved and will be (is) very independent!

Its called her job. There are plenty of average folk who have jobs where they work nights and can’t be there to “tuck their kids in”
