Calista Flockhart: 'Motherhood changed every fiber of my being'

While she was starring in the television show Ally McBeal, actress Calista Flockhart admits that she was "a workaholic and very ambitious."  That all "melted away" for Calista after she became a mom to son Liam, 6, in 2001, however.

I have almost zero ambition.  I want to do my work and then I just want to go home and be with my family.  I think I’m much more tolerant, and I’m probably not so focused on myself at all.  Things that I used to think were important are just simply not important anymore.

After Ally McBeal was canceled in 2002, Calista took nearly five years off from acting to devote herself to Liam.  The hiatus was good for mother and son, as well as for her blossoming relationship with actor Harrison Ford.  Now a co-star in the hit television series Brothers & Sisters, Calista is happy with her work/home balance.

Now I’m working two or three days a week and the rest is family time.  I can’t imagine anything better than the situation I have at this very moment…[Motherhood] changed every fiber of my being and I think I can honestly say it brought me as close as I’ve ever come to being really happy.
