Update: Would-be kidnapper of David Letterman's son captured

Kelly A. Frank — the former handyman who at one time stood accused of plotting to kidnap David Letterman’s son Harry, 3, and who recently escaped from the Montana State Prison — has been captured near State Highway 35 in northwestern Montana, according to MSNBC.  Kelly’s accomplice in the escape, William Willcutt, has not been located.  The duo drove off the grounds in a half-ton spray truck belonging to the prison on Friday.

Kelly received the sentence as part of a plea-bargain, whereby the more serious count of solicitation to kidnap was dropped in exchange for Kelly’s guilty plea to lesser charges of felony theft and misdemeanor obstruction. In 2005 prosecutors had alleged that Kelly — who performed work on David’s sprawling ranch in Montana — hatched a plan to kidnap Harry, then 16-months-old, and his nanny and hold them for $5 million ransom.

Harry is the first child for David and his longtime fiance Regina Lasko.  The couple issued no comment on Kelly’s escape.

I dont get it….how could he have been charged in 1995 with a crime if the boy is now only 3 yrs old and was 16 mos old at the time he planned the kidnapping?????

Sarah’s note: I’ve corrected Missy’s post. Thank you for pointing it out.

Wow! That is unbelievable.

There are some really mentally disturbed people out there. David and Regina must be terrified. This might be one of the reason’s why some celebs do not want their children photographed and why they carry them when they are out in public.

Thank goodness this weirdo has been found. Perhaps now David and Regina can breathe a big sigh of relief, and enjoy their son

- Noodles on

Too many weirdos looking to make a buck off the people they work for or people they know are famous and known to be well-off. But I’m glad they’ve caught him, the sicko.
