Australian runner Kerryn McCann expecting third child

Australian New Idea Magazine has an interview in their June issue with Olympic runner Kerryn McCann on her third pregnancy. Of her new pregnancy, Kerryn told the magazine,

I was pretty sick for the first 12 weeks, so sick I could hardly run. Once I got past 12 weeks I felt fantastic and I’ve been out doing easy half-hour jobs in the morning.

When asked if she sticks to her same fitness routine when she is pregnant, Kerryn said,

I try to stick to a low-fat diet when I’m in training. Although I forget all about that when I’m pregnant, I always eat a healthy diet because it makes me feel better.

Kerryn said she was hoping her good eating and exercise habits would help her throughout pregnancy, but it didn’t seem to be the case with her first two children.

I had a hard time with Benton, 9, and Josie, 3. I don’t know if my muscles were tight around my stomach, but I had a hell of a time with the birth of both of them. When I had Benton I ruptured a joint in my pelvis and was in a wheelchair for three days, and then I had to wear a brace for six weeks. Josie was different. Because of what happened with Benton, we were aware and careful of it not happening again. With her, I was back running when she was four weeks old. Josie was nine months when I competed in Athens.

Kerryn is married to Greg McCann and their third child is due October 18th.
