Update: Eddie Murphy, Melanie Brown face off in court today

Update: Splash News Online has photos of Melanie bringing Angel for her test, and pics of Eddie arriving for his test a few hours later. Eddie told reporters, ‘Absolutely, I’ll do the right thing’ if Angel proves to be his child.

Originally posted 7:30 am: The question surrounding the paternity of 2-month-old Angel Iris Murphy Brown is on its way to being settled once and for all, now that her mom, ex-Spice Girl Melanie Brown, has reportedly won a hearing in court to decide the issue.  Actor Eddie Murphy, who Melanie has always claimed to be the father, has been ordered to make an appearance at a hearing in the case today — where he will also be ordered to provide a DNA sample.   Said an unnamed source:

He has left (Melanie) with no choice.  She doesn’t want Angel to grow up questioning who her father is.

I absolutely understand and respect her decision to make the father officially known. She can’t make him be a “father” even if he is, but she can take away any question of paternity. One day, it will be something that her daughter will want to know with a certainty, and she can at least, offer her this. Good for her. And if Eddie does end up being the father who chose to shirk his responsibilities, then shame on him. I’ve certainly enjoyed his personality over the years, but something like this would paint him as an absolute loser in my book. Just my .02

This whole thing is bittersweet. If he is the father, good, at least she’ll be able to know she has one, if, by chance, he slips up and doesn’t step up to the plate and be a father to her. But if the results do show he’s the father, and with her saying all along that he is, I want to know why drag this out, act like you’re not, and have this raked through the mud for nothing if just to protect his ego? Protecting his ego is gonna hurt his daughter in the long run, especially if she ever finds out and wonders why he’d ever want to shun her? That’d hurt more than knowing that same man is my father. All of this drama for nothing… Pssh!

But whatever, I just want Mel B. to finally have a piece of mind and get this over with. Good luck to her! And I hope for Angel’s sake Eddie does do the “right thing”, as he said he would.

I think he is the father. I don’t think Mel B. would go through all this trouble if she wasn’t 100% sure that Eddie is the father. It’s sad that this has taken so long but I’m glad he’s finally man enough to take a paternity test.

Compared to the article on Ne-Yo raising his ex’s son, Eddie Murphy’s behavior in this situation is ridiculous. I think he is the father- if he isn’t, Mel B is really going to hurt her image, so I doubt she’d insist hat he was the father if he wasn’t.

Eddie Murphy should learn from Ne-Yo. He might be younger, but he’s a lot more responsible and selfless!
