Natasha Bedingfield doesn't want an "army of kids like Angelina Jolie"

06/10/2007 at 08:48 PM ET

English popstar Natasha Bedingfield shared her respect of her role model, actress and celebrity-mom Angelina Jolie, while discussing her own desires of motherhood with UK’s OK magazine.  Asked the last time she thought of having babies, the Unwritten singer said,

Well I guess when my single ‘I Wanna Have Your Babies’ was out. I wasn’t thinking about it seriously because it’s a crazy comic exploration of what would happen if everything you thought about was said out loud. Would I want an army of kids like Angelina Jolie?  I don’t think so. But I really look up to Angelina. Even when she was single she was adopting babies. But I don’t have a plan to have lots of children. I even forget to water my potted plants!

The lyrics of I Wanna Have Your Babies include the lines, Gotta beep out what I really wanna shout/ Whoops Did I say it out loud/Did you find out I wanna have your babies/Get serious like crazy I wanna have your babies/I see ‘em springin up like daisies.

I think it’s funny how she and so many others say things about Angelina having an army of kids. She only has 4! I guess since I come from a huge family I don’t consider 4 kids a lot.

I agree, four kids is a blessing! I am the proud Momma of 3, (wanted more actually!) Also, I really really hope she meant her POTTED plants, not her “pot” plants! :o )

Sarah’s note: haha! I’m guessing Nisha made a typo — will fix.

I don’t know why people consider 4-6 kids are too much. I guess majority of people wants 1-2 two kids only. We are four and my mom and dad wanted 8 kids but my dad roving eyes stopped it from 4. My mom raised us with out no problem by herself.

People just seem to have less kids these days, so to most people it is not the average and seems like a lot. I don’t think she meant it in a bad way, or anything against Angelina, and definitely not that it wasn’t a blessing.

I don’t think that in this day and age, four kids is considered a nice-sized family, but not too big, whereas five-plus is viewed as large. Personally, that’s around the number I’d like to have (four). I think the reason people always mention Angelina having an “army” has more to do with the fact that she adopted and gave birth to so many kids in such a short period of time as opposed to the actual number of kids.

Angelina has said that she wants 10 kids, so I don’t think Natasha meant that the current 4 is an army.

Angelina can afford to have as many kids as she wants!! I really don’t see anything wrong with Angelina having lots of children as long as she can give them the attention that they need.

Many people choose the number of children based on their ability to support them. My goal is for all three of my daughters to graduate from college. It’s gonna be expensive. I would have loved to have added a few boys to the family so my girls had brothers but I also wanted to be able to afford my children.

I don’t think N.Bedingfield meant it badly. It was just a comment. I reckon Angelina Jolie is doing a brilliant job of looking after a family, it shows that she is a committed mom.
So what if she has alot of kids, I mean 4 is hardly an army is it.

Mom Said It

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
