Steve Carell dishes on his son's latest habits

Steve Carell stopped by The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Friday andshared some hilarious anecdotes of how his son John passes the time. The 3-year-old can often be found with his hand in some compromisingplaces.

The other day I walked in and he was picking his nose – I’mtrying to get him to stop doing that – and eating it. And I heard himsay, ‘Wow!’ I turned and said, ‘What, Johnny? What’s up?’ And he said,’This is a spicy boogie.’ And I was like, ‘C’mon, man, don’t revel init!’ And he was sitting on the couch in just a diaper and he had hishand inside his diaper. And I said, ‘Johnny, what are you doing?’ Andhe said, ‘I’m playing with my penis.’ And then he said, ‘It won’t godown.’ And then he followed that up with, ‘It broke.’ For one thing,I’ve been gone a lot recently, but I felt sad that I missed my son’sfirst erection. But I do vow to be there when he loses his virginity.

Steven and his wife, actress Nancy Walls, also have a daughter, Elisabeth Anne, 6.

I’m sure John will be really grateful for this when he’s older… Honestly, why do some celebs insist on telling the press every little deatil about their own and their children’s lives?

i’m pretty sure he made some of it up. it’s steve carell, and he’s not actually going to be there when his son loses his virginity. and for one thing, he describes his son’s first erection and then says he missed it because he was away? obviously, he’s story’s not straight.

- anna mila on

I thought it was kind of gross. I mean, there’s being funny and then there’s being distasteful. This wasn’t funny IMO.

- TwinMom on

That is disgusting and distasteful! It’s his child for goodness sake! I know he was trying to be funny but he went far too far! Why tell the press about his child’s “erection” when he’s 3 years old? There are some weirdos out there and saying things like that doesn’t help the matter! It’s actually very dangerous, especially for him. He’s a movie star and saying things like that could make someone abduct his child because they heard this. It’s twisted and wrong in my opinion.

To be honest, I have no respect for Steve Carrell now.

- Mariabella on

I really like Steve Carell. I think he’s funny and I love The Office.

But this interview really disgusted me. Who says that kind of stuff to the press? I know it’s just Steve being Steve but still. It grossed me out, really.

- Stephany on

OH MY GOD.

it was a joke. i thought it was hilarious. and yes, anna mila, he is clearly not serious about being there when his son loses his virginity.

some people are so uptight. grow up. PENIS. VAGINA. EVERYONE HAS THEM.

- Ada on

“He’s a movie star and saying things like that could make someone abduct his child because they heard this.”

UM, ok.

This is not only illogical but ridiculous. Every little boy has a penis. Everyone is aware what penises do. Steve’s little boy is no different than millions on other little boys in this respect. If this information is news to someone, that person is an idiot.

It was just a joke.

- Ada on

I’m sure he was joking about being there when his son loses his virginity, the rest of it, I don’t know. But either way, there was no need to tell the whole world about it. I don’t know who he is, but what father goes around telling the press about stuff like that?

geez, talk about uptight!!! i never liked Steve Carrell, but this little story made me laugh.

- tink1217 on

OH MY GOD!!! That is the funniest thing I have ever heard..I love Steve Carell!

- Natalie S. on

Um…o.k….apparently a lot of you are unfamiliar with the term “comedian” They usually make a LOT of jokes! Whether they be from what they have seen, heard, or made up…it is all an act! Having been to a few “Comedy” shows, that was not that bad…distasteful? maybe…but in his line of work…that’s where he got where he got! Telling funny jokes/stories!
That being said, I admit…I laughed! I guess it was somewhat my sense of humor!

- momof2girlies on

I thought it was funny. Though I didn’t know boys had erections so early on.

- Honey on

I thought it was hilarious. My three year old is constantly fondling his penis. Also, when he sees me naked, he has recently started asking me to “put your vagina away” and trying to cover it up! Or if I’m wearing underpants he’ll ask if my vagina is still there. To a three year old, its just a body party, no different to an arm or a foot — but to us, the things that they say are absolutely hilarious!

- Nicola on

I was grossed out and entertained at the same time. Only Steve would tell something like that about his son’s latest antics…lol.

- FC on

Well I’m a huge Steve Carell fan so I can’t be impartial, but I thought it was hilarious. Keep in mind that this aired at midnight. I’m not sure if some of you have actually seen late night tv, but its a bit more raunchy than primetime. Obviously that abduction comment is just ridiculous. I don’t know that I would say something like that about my child, but Steve is just so sweet that he pulled it off. For those of you that think it sounds funny, the actual video is a hundred times funnier.

- Jen on

I was really grossed out by his comments. Kids should be taught to not play with themselves in public. If that was my kid, I would spank him.

- SamStar on

SamStar- If you had paid more attention to the article, it is clearly obvious that he wasn’t playing with himself in public, he was doing it in the privacy of his own home! Even if he was doing it in public, he is only three years old, for heaven’s sake! If he were five or so, then I’d definently agree with discplining him for doing it in public (although I defienently do not believe in spanking). However, at three years old, if he did it in public, it would probably be because he simply didn’t know any better. In that case, if he were my kid, I would simply explain to him that it is innaproprite to do things like that in public.

- Annoynomus on

I suppose-I HOPE-that he was joking about being there when his son loses his virginity. Saying stuff like this is disrespectful to the child.

- Miley on

First off…Ada, I love you. You absolutely rock!
Second… I thought it was hysterical. I can’t believe there are this many uptight people!!! Seriously!!
As for spanking a child of 3 over him reaching into his pants in public…WOW. I hope you don’t have children. I hope if you don’t, that you won’t. Kids “playing” with their bits is a completely normal part of growing up. When my kids got to that stage, I just explained to them that it’s something that is perfectly fine to do, but like the bits that they were playing with, kind of a private activity that they needed to do without an audience. I told my daughter that it wasn’t performance art. They totally were cool with that. I think spanking is going way, way over the top.
I think that everyone should take a page from the book of children when it comes to body parts…They have a refreshingly innocent attitude about them. A penis or vagina to them is the same as a foot or belly button…it’s just a part that comes with the package.
Also, Nicola’s post had me almost crying with laughter. Kids are the funniest thing ever!!! When my oldest daughter was two my husband was freshly showered and getting dressed, and she looked up at him with this weird look on her face…like he was deformed…and said, “What’s THAT?!!!”
You’d think he had a tumor hanging off him. It was pretty funny. We had the whole conversation about penises and vaginas, and for a while there, every time she met a guy, she would say, “You’re a boy! You have a PENIS!” She was so proud she learned something new. Her 11 year old (at the time) uncle was totally embarassed by her! I love that kids have no shame.
