Bindi Irwin's solo US TV debut

06/09/2007 at 08:09 PM ET

Bindi Irwin, the daughter of Australian Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, who was killed in a stingray accident last September, made her solo debut on US television last night. The show was hosted by Bindi, 8, and honored the strong relationship that Bindi had with her father. My Daddy the Crocodile Hunter, aired on the Animal Planet and showed Steve teaching Bindi about snakes and animals from early in her life. The final footage recorded of Bindi and Steve in North Queensland on their last crocodile expedition was also included. Bindi has said that;

The best thing was being able to work with my dad.

The program acted as a preview for her new TV series, Bindi: The Jungle Girl. It begins in the US next Saturday this weekend and in Australia on July 18th.

I’m 33, and I wish I had her confidence and stage presence. I marvel at how she’s been raised. There is obviously no stage mother here. It’s her natural talent, a Steve Irwin mini-me, indeed!

Actually, they had her show on today (here in the U.S.) My 5 year old loved it! She asked if I could record it for her!
Bindi is such a cutie and a Strong girl! I’m sure she is doing her father proud!

I love this precious girl so much I could burst. I can’t get enough of her! She’s incredibly mature, more mature than most people twice her age. She has a personality that leaps off the screen. After watching “My Daddy, the Crocodile Hunter,” I’m reassured that Steve is still alive. Bindi is just like him in every way, shape and form (except for, you know, being a girl ;) ).

Bindi Irwin has to be one of the most special kids in the world. Her strength and outgoingness (if thats a word lol) is just amazing. She will definitley go very far in life.

I was just thinking about Steve Irwin the other day. It still makes me so sad to think he’s not with us anymore. Bindi is amazing.

Am I the only person who thinks this little girl is being pushed?

for the record, there were two episodes of Bindi, the Jungle girl on yesterday afternoon… so it’s already started being broadcast… I dont’ remember if it was on Discovery Kids or Animal Planet, but my kids watched it and they watch both those channels.

We watched BINDI JUNGLE GIRL yesterday and it was so good. Especially with the Steve parts. Right now the kids are rewatching it. Cant wait for next week.

Bindi’s cute and does a good job on camera, however when she’s “on” while on camera she seems to have the same qualities as the Olsen Twins had in their videos a decade ago.

I just hope that Terri and whoever else is managing her career now doesn’t let her get burned out or eventually have the same issues as the Olsen Twins or Lindsay Lohan & co. in another decade.

I am sorry, I know that she is a very cute, smart, talented girl, but I am just waiting for her to have some sort of breakdown. It is not normal for a child who lost a parent so violently to show almost no signs of natural griveing. The mother seemed to worship her husband like some sort of god, and expects her children to carry on the legacy… I would be much more worried about keeping my kids out of the public eye, where they could grieve and have a normal life. Conservation is very important, but not as important as yoru childs emotional health.

This show was in the planning stages *before* Steve Irwin’s death. She was not pushed into doing this series because of her father’s death. How do people know that she is not grieving for her father? This show is only a small part of her life, we do not know how she acts when she is not on camera. Also, people grieve in different ways. I think it is a big assumption to conlude that she is not grieving for her father.

I came back and reread my comments. I think they sounded a little nasty. I was in a hurry when I posted them. My apologies if I sounded nasty.

I watched these. My 5 year old niece loved Bindi the Jungle Girl. I cried pretty much all through My Daddy the Crocodile Hunter. I still cry a over them. I don’t think Bindi is being pushed. The show was in the works before Steve’s death. Bindi pretty much is the one who says that SHE wants to be just like her dad and carry on what he was doing. Terri said in a recent interview that she thinks its finally hitting Bindi that her dad isn’t coming back. And both the kids are in therapy. People mourn things differently, especially kids. Don’t be so harsh people.
