Katie Holmes 'definitely' wants more kids, says Tom Cruise is a great father

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, actress Katie Holmes raves about her daughter Suri, 13 months, and the full year she took off from the film industry in order to get acquainted with motherhood.  The break was "amazing," Katie said, adding that she and husband Tom Cruise are "having the best time."  When asked if Suri would eventually become a big sister, Katie replied:

Yes, definitely.

Suri already is a little sister to Connor, 12, and Isabella, 14, Tom’s two children from his marriage to actress Nicole Kidman.  According to Katie, the three Cruise children get along famously.

The kids are so sweet, they’re so great with Suri and she lights up when she sees them.  We have so many kids in our house, there’s always this wonderful chatter and the great noise of kids.

Katie said she had no qualms about Tom’s ability to parent a baby, calling him a "great father."

It came as no shock that when we had Suri he was amazing with the baby.

The full interview will air Monday on Entertainment Tonight

I am still not a huge Tom fan, but it’s really nice to hear great things about their family. I am sure Katie is a great mother. And as weird as some of the stories are, I am sure Tom is a great dad too.

Wow I love this family and I will sure tune in to catch that interview definitely. Tom is a great father and Suri is the cutest thing ever. Wish them the best!

- MaryLou on

This is the one family that cant have another baby fast enough!! LOL!! I adore them all, and cant wait for another little Cruise!!

- MuffThumb on

Sometimes I wish Katie would say something real, like “I’m tired because Suri runs me around a lot” or “I’d love more kids, but want to give my body a little break” —something—anything— besides that things are “amazing’ and that “Tom is great”.

I guess this is why she sounds so fake to me. I’m sure she’s a great mom and loves her family, but everything she says sounds scripted, like a PR person wrote it. Sorry, it just does IMO.

- PSB on

PSB- Katie’s comments sound real to me. To me, they sound similar to comments many other Celebs making, and they don’t get criticized about it. Also, maybe she ISN’T tired because Suri runs me around a lot”. After all, she’s got Tom, Bella, and Conner to help her take care of Suri, and it is very possible that Suri is a very laid-back girl, and not the type to run her parents around. As for her her comment about wanting more kids, maybe she DOESN’T want to give her body much of a rest before having another kid. When you think about it, she has already given it a rest for more than a year. It is very possible that she doesn’t want to give it more of a rest than that.

- Annoynomus on

Just to add, I’m sure Katie isn’t that tired, since she probably has a nanny and much household help, to step in with the baby and the housework. Not to mention a driver, a personal assistant, etc. Plus, isn’t TC’s Mommy living with them?

See what these celebs say when they live our existence!

- KW on

PSB, I tend to agree… Everything Tom and Katie say sounds a bit too scripted. From what I’ve read, Tom sounds controlling and probably has a say in what gets printed, whether it comes from Katie or himself.

- TwinMom on

I too think most things out of her mouth sound scripted but I still wish them the best.

- Marisol on

Hey everybody–I wasn’t trying to put words in Katie’s mouth (those were just examples of what other people have said), just saying what she says always sounds like it was written out for her beforehand. Even if she feels exactly as she says, the delivery and wording always sound a bit fake to me.

I have no idea what her life is like, because I don’t know her or Tom, obviously, so I’m not saying what she is feeling isn’t genuine –but I did work in the entertainment business before I had my baby and I have a lot of experience with celeb PR. She just seems really scripted to me. Oddly enough, Tom seems less scripted, but maybe it’s because he’s the one writing the script?

- PSB on

Dear lord, talk about trying to latch unto anything to discredit this couple. What sounds scripted about it?

Most people who want more kids, will say either, yeah in the future. Or nah this is it. Not many would say, yeah after my body gets back in shape c’mon. First of all have you seen her lately, she is back in shape. She sure she wants to have more kids, hence her response.

And considering this is a live interview, I dont see how its scripted considering how was she able to now what questions they would asked. these arent rocket scientist questions.
I’m positive had these same words come from another celeb, we woudlnt have had any cries of scripted.

- mystique on

Scripted? Sorry but that’s such a load of bull! Honestly. Seems they can’t say or do anything without people picking on them. Like with Angelina and her family, but this is even worse.

- sadie on

When asked if Suri would eventually become a big sister, Katie answered, yes definitely.
Katie didnt say they were going to try for another baby straightaway – that wasnt the question and it wasnt what she answered! Maybe they will try in a year for all we know. As for giving her body a rest, there are lots of celeb moms with children close in age – Heidi Klum, Denise Richards, Britney and many more. Nobody criticises them for having babies so close in age but of course with Katie its a big deal again.

- Jay Dee on

I think this is why many people doubt the validity of Tom and Katie’s relationship. She often sounds scripted and fake. They don’t seem down-to-earth or relatable at all. I’m not sure what it is about them that people like.

- yogadaisy on

I’m not a TomKat fan at all and can’t believe I’m defending them but c’mon people, this is getting crazy. What about that interview sounds scripted or fake to you? That Katie called Cruise “a great dad”?

Imagine somebody would ask you the same question, if your husband did a good job as a father and you loved him what would you answer???
“D’uh, I don’t know?” Hardly.

- just_me on

You know what I find funny? The same people who post that it’s “unfounded” to critisize Angie and Brad, find it “okay” to do it to TomKat…

- TracyG on

what struck me as bizarre was the “it came as no shock to me” thing.
It’s like when she said she was proud or honored or something to be Suris mom…..that’s just SO random and bizarre to say about a kid that’s less than a year old.

- libraesque on

justme, I think what people are commenting on is……..her vocabulary maybe. The amazing amazing amazing thing is just weird. She said amazing about 5 times in that interview, she’s been doing that since they met. She’s an intelligent girl, I think I’ve read that she was a straight A student….and she just sounds…..stupid!!!

And I have never ever seen a celebrity repeat verbatim in interviews stuff re: their children like TC did when Suri was first born

- libraesque on

libraesque- I don’t find it bizzare at all that she said she is “honored to be” Suri’s mom. I don’t have kids yet, but if and when I ever do, I certainly won’t hesitate to say I am honored to be their mom, even when they are just babies. Also, I just re-read the interview, and, unless she said more on Enternainment Tonight than is posted here (I wouldn’t know, since I don’t watch that show), she only said “amazing” twice. First she said that her break from working was amazing, and then she said that it was no shock to her that Tom was amazing with the baby (and BTW, I am sure that by that she meant that, even before Suri was born, Katie knew Tom would be an great dad. After all, he does have two older kids, Conner and Bella, that live with him and Katie, so Katie got to see his parenting skills before Suri was born).
Also, keep in mind that this was a LIVE interview. Not everything may have neccesarily come out sounding the way she wanted it to.
Finally, about your comment that you have never seen a celebrity constantly repeat in interviews stuff about their kids: Take a look at all the Angelina Jolie interviews posted on CBB. She has also repeated stuff about her kids TONS of times (although, I admit, she DOES have a way of saying it differently enough each time that it doesn’t get annoying).

- Annoynomus on

I also want to mention that I completely agree with Mystique: This was a LIVE interview, so there is no way Katie’s answers could have been scripted.
