They could have named her Samantha and called her Sam as a nickname. That way, she could have a more girly name if she wanted, and less confusing.

I have to admit, I feel sorry for Sam every time I hear the story of how she got her name. I'm sure Charlie had good intentions, but I personally wouldn't want to know that I was named after the family pet. And in the article that accompanies the pic of Denise and the girls right after Lola's birth, I think it says that Lola's middle name is after Denise's grandmother. I know there was an article where she says that, but I can't remember which one.

Charlie has two brothers and one sister, all of whom are now actors: Emilio Estévez, Ramón Estévez Jr. and Renée Estévez. So that makes them Lola's uncles and aunt
