Lisa Leslie: 'I'm not a superwoman!'
Despite suggestions from teammates that a return to the court two months postpartum is possible, WNBA star Lisa Leslie is determined to chart her own course following the birth of her first child, due June 25th. Because the star athlete will not be cleared to exercise for six weeks following her delivery, it is doubtful that she could return to her Los Angeles Sparks before the season ends in late August.
I have no idea what this experience is going to be like. I can’t say what I’m going to be capable of…I’m not a superwoman!
Contrary to earlier reports, the baby is in fact a girl, whom Lisa and her husband Michael Lockwood have decided to name Lauren. Lisa said they chose the name, at least in part, so that the baby could have the same initials as her mother.
We’ll just keep it in the family.
Michael, a tennis enthusiast, and Lisa, a 3-time WNBA MVP, are already jockeying for position in the race to see which sport Lauren eventually falls in love with. Although their home in Dallas comes equipped with a tennis court, Lisa said that her little girl might be the catalyst that gets this basketball star to cross-over into the realm of coaching.
Michael is really pushing the whole tennis ball thing, and I’m pushing the basketball. She’s got to fall in love with one of those balls. I’m not sure which one it is, but either way, she’ll be on the right path.
