Ruby Maguire won't be 'the carrot kid'

Splashnews_bsla060507a_012_cbbActor Tobey Maguire, 31, has previously mentioned how his daughter Ruby, 6 months, is ‘all he thinks about.’ And he’s not kidding — he’s already planning what she’ll eat at future parties!

I’m not into sugar for kids…but you don’t want your kid to be thecarrot kid. There’s always the kid at the parties carrying abag of carrots. You’ve got to let them eat a little cake.

I totally agree with Toby. I grew up eating well with the very occassional trip to McDonald’s, and I still maintain those same eating habits. However, it really bugs me when parents like Gwyneth Paltrow take the high-and-mighty road and say they’ll never let their children eat junk food of any kind and only feed their kids organic food. Please. There is much debate regarding whether organically grown food actually is safer and healthier to eat, and even if it is, the occassional Happy Meal is hardly going to kill them. Everything in moderation.

Lauren, I TOTALLY agree with you. I grew up eating meat and very occasional treats of chips or McDonald’s. I’m a very healthy adult now. When I was pregnant, I ate anything and everything (nuts, dairy, seafood, you name it) and I’m convinced that’s why my kids have no food sensitivities or food allergies. I think everything in moderation. Generations grew up on varying kinds/cuts of meat and veggies sprayed with whatever and I think people were much healthier overall back then.

My kids are allowed to have cake, but I still scrap the frosting off. :X

*hand in air*i was the carrot kid.i was born with allergies to animal products-pretty much dairy, milk, nuts, poultry, eggs, meat, seafood, u name it. it’s not life-threatening thank god, but it’s still pretty much a life sentence.my diet was stricter when i was younger.i have alternative foods i’m sposed to eat, but they’re mail order from a company which manufactures such foods and i can almost never afford them, even with government help. when i do eat wrong, i get severe headaches when the contaminated blood goes into my brain & it’s kinda like being tipsy(ie my body can’t digest some things).

i can still have kids of my own, but i’m told i have to be on a ridiculously low protein, controlled diet before and during the entire pregnancy with the abovementioned mail order foods(which hopefully i will be able to afford by then). i was not breastfed coz i was allergic to breastmilk and i don’t know if i will be able to nurse myself.

on a tangent, not sure if anyone from Australia has ever mentioned this, but here anyone who has a baby gets a $4000 (or is it $5000 now?not sure) “baby bonus” from the government towards baby costs-for every newborn in Australia, I think. For a while it backfired coz teenage girls were gettin preg & buying plasma TVs instead, & nothing for the kid but hopefully they’ve fixed that problem.

re:this topic, i thought it was gonna be about ruby having red hair(ie carrot-top) n im thinking, she doesn’t have red hair….

Ang–not sure where you live, but there’s a great bakery called “baby cakes” in NYC that delivers all over the country. Everything contains no nuts, dairy, gluten and the stuff always wins awards for best cupcakes, etc.

I’m totally on board with Toby. While I don’t eat red meat (and don’t cook it at home) and eat rather healthy, I have no problem with my son eating burgers and fries at MacDonalds when he has a birthday party there or some special occassion. You have to let kids be kids to some extent or it can backfire on you. I’ll be somewhat amused if Apple Martin is 200lbs and a junk food fanatic when she’s older.

PSB-im in Sydney(Australia)lol but thanks for the heads-up. there r places like that here too, but more ppl in U.S. have it, so I guess there’s much choice there..

Hands down, Ruby Maguire is the most beautiful celebrity baby – at least in my book!
