A step-mom already, Mary J. Blige contemplates a baby

Mary J. Blige can’t make up her mind.  The award-winning singer has a solid marriage, a beautiful home, famous friends and three beloved step-children, but she just isn’t sure about whether she’s ready — or ever will be ready — to have a child of her own.

I think I’m going to have children … But it’s not something that I have planned.

In helping to raise her step-children with husband Kendu Isaacs — including 7-year-old Nas, 8-year-old Jordan and 20-year-old Briana — Mary noted that "they come around and then they go home."

Your kid is around you 24/7…My child is going to be watching me go up and down on the days that I go down.  I don’t want my child to feel what I felt when I was coming up, what it was like for my mother to hurt all the time.  So I have a fear.  It’s probably one of my biggest fears — a fear of my child suffering, you know, with that energy.

Mary enjoys a good relationship with Nas and Jordan, who — for now — refer to Mary as their ‘friend.’  Although Briana — who was a fan of Mary’s music before they ever met — and Mary needed a little time to warm up to one another, the two are currently close and share similar personalities.

Yeah we were both having issues on the low with each other … But I had to realize that I’m older and I have the most wisdom.  I said ‘I’ve got to grow up right now for Bri.’  So I did and now we’re cool.  She calls me with all her stories that 20-year-old’s have.

I understand that nobody wears their sorrows on their forehead but I definitely sense that Mary J. Bilge has had some really terrible experiences. Despite her business success she still seems like a very troubled individual. So if she feels that biological children are not for her, she should follow her heart. There’s some untapped darkness that clearly still haunts her.
