Dan Zanes: 'The only thing that makes any sense is to be a parent'

For Dan Zanes, the best part of playing children’s music is the ability to have a "full-blown dance party before lunchtime."

That would be unheard of in the rock-and-roll world that I’m from.  With family music, there’s this freewheeling wild spirit.

In a recent web interview with WomansDay.com, the former Del Fuegos frontman revealed that he only got involved in the genre after the birth of his daughter Anna 12-years ago; When he went to the record store to find an updated version of the rock and folk music he grew up listening to — and found nothing comparable — he decided to make the music himself.  His efforts seemingly have paid off at home, for Anna is a talented singer in her own right, and also plays the flute and ukulele.

Dan says he would like to instill in Anna a sensitivity "to the people of the world" as well as an ability "to have a sense of humor in all situations."  It appears as though the latter virtue is already firmly in place, however.

I love being around when my daughter is making jokes.  She’s really funny…I can’t remember what life was like before Anna was born.  The only thing that makes any sense is to be a parent.  It feels like this is the richest part of life.

He ranks right next to the Wiggles with my kids. They absolutely love his music.

The accordion comment is about his wife, not his daughter. Love Dan Zanes!
