Pregnant Gretchen Mol at book party

Actress Gretchen Mol and her husband, director Tod ‘Kip’ Williams, were snapped at the Liz Lange boutique Thursday evening in celebration of the book Hatched!: The Big Push from Pregnancy to Motherhood ($10). Gretchen is four months along. She spent some of the party talking pediatricians with Bridget Moynahan!

I know every woman carries differently, but she’s really popped for 4 months – considering its her first child and all.

Not to speculate, but given what we’ve heard from time to time about celebrities being pregnant, and then suddenly not (and I KNOW sometimes it’s just speculation), just because she doesn’t have a living child, doesn’t mean it’s her first pregnancy. Definitely most women carry differently, but even if a child wasn’t carried to term, the body remembers pregnancy, even if it was only for 6 weeks or 3 months. The only two women I’ve known who, during the course of a “first” pregnancy, looked big early (as in before the 20 week mark) were women who had suffered a loss in a previous pregnancy that nobody knew about until later.

Gretchen did have a pregnancy announced by the NY Post in March 2005, and then no baby — we assumed she must have lost the child or never been pregnant in the first place.

She also could be fudging her due date to the press.
