Bobby Brown seeks reversal of custody ruling
The divorce and custody dispute between Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston may not be over after all.
Bobby, in a 5-page declaration filed April 26 in the Orange County California Superior Court, made some rather startling allegations in support of his request to dismiss an April ruling which awarded Whitney sole custody of their 14-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina – namely, that he was homeless. According to Bobby, he could not file an adequate response to Whitney’s divorce petition because at the time of their separation he "had nowhere to go and very little money to live on."
My marriage had fallen apart. I was without a home, I had no money and I was experiencing legal problems associated with my child support obligations. It was no wonder by the end of 2006 I had become distraught and depressed. Frankly, at the time I was not capable of and did not appreciate the importance of getting the paperwork … in on time.
Furthermore, Whitney allegedly told Bobby that they could take six months to work on their problems; Instead, the award-winning singer filed for divorce and fast-tracked the process in order to obtain a default judgment and full custody of Bobbi Kristina. Seeking shared custody of their daughter as well as spousal support, Bobby says that Whitney’s legal maneuvering left him "shocked" and "surprised to say the least."
If Whitney wants a divorce, so be it. But to deprive me of custody of our only child on a default basis …is unbelievable to me. I believe that I have a wonderful relationship with my daughter Bobbi Kris — a relationship that I would like to see strengthen and grow.
I love Bobbi Kris dearly and want to spend as much time with her as possible.
A hearing on Bobby’s motion is scheduled for June 15.
