Melanie Brown taking Eddie Murphy to court

Melb004pe8Melanie Brown, 31, spoke to People and EXTRA and told them that although she loves motherhood and ‘would have another kid tomorrow if I could,’ the aftermath of Angel Irisbirth has been much more challenging than that of her first daughter, Phoenix‘s, as Melanie is having trouble getting Eddie Murphy to acknowledge paternity.

He’s not doing a DNA test and he’s not signing the birth certificate. So it’s going to have to go to court so hecan be forced to do it, which is strange since he was the one askingfor it.

I just think no woman should have to go through that and no baby shouldhave to go through that. Be responsible. What else can you say? I feel great! I’m happy. I was a happy pregnant woman and now I’m ahappy new mom. Life goes on, and I have two beautiful children.

Mel elaborates to EXTRA, saying,

I don’t know what happened and I still don’t know what happened…we had a few little disagreements and things that we were working though, but I didn’t think for one second it was completely over…my main thing now is I want him to be a responsible parent.

This baby was planned and he knows it’s his…this is what’s mind-boggling. Angel can’t speak, she can’t defend herself…and I’ve got a situation where I’m dealing with a father who won’t do a DNA test, who won’t sign the birth certificate.  So, now I have to go through lawyers and I think it’s really sad. I’m not quite sure, but I don’t think it’s a very good representation for a black father in 2007.

Be responsible…as simple as that! It takes two people to make a baby.  It takes two parents to be responsible for a baby. I’ve got no bad feelings.  I feel sorry that this baby isn’t seeing her dad and isn’t having the beautiful contact…I just want to get a move on and I just think it’s disappointing that it’s ended like this, so publicly.

I think Eddie is a total loser! I have lost any respect for a man who does not have the guts to at least acknowledge an innocent child’s presence. And as for the woman Tracy that he is currently dating, dump the guy. How can you be with a man who is so heartless? He needs to take the test if he thinks he is not the father. The guy already has like 7 kids how can you close your heart to another one? It’s such a sad example of a man who lacks any decency. Mel B. continue to be strong and take care of those girls, forgot about Eddie and move on with your life. Do not allow him to define that little girl’s existence!!!!!

How old is Eddie Murphy 16? Eddie stand up and be a man!!! If you didn’t want any additional children you should have been wise enough to protect yourself.

- vivi on

Now I believe the stories about him walking out of the Oscars after he lost! Clearly the guy lacks character!

- Rachel on

yikes…she’s wearing too much make-up or has been airbrushed so much that I don’t even recognize her!!! Oh and I think she should’ve went with Brown-Murphy…not Murphy Brown…lol!!!!!!

- Alyssa on

oh and Eddie Murphy refuses to have anything to do with Saturday Night Live…which he should owe all his credit of success to!

- Alyssa on

eddie has lost all my respect! I cannot believe he would do that to a child that could possibly be his, probably is really the word. What kind of man refuses to find out if child is his??? One that wants to shirk his financial responsibilities!!!

Good for Mel.. standing up for what she belives in, and with such poise and dignity. She has not once said anything bad about Eddie whcih amazes me… she is such a strong woman.. It all comes out in the WASH.. this story is about to get very interesting… Best of Luck to her.

Well, all my best wishes to Melanie and her two little girls. It reminds me of the whole Howard K. Stern DNA fiasco. If you’re so certain the child isn’t your’s then you should have no problem taking the test. Get it over with! It’s so unfortunate that during a time that should be filled with nothing but joy and happiness, Melanie has to deal with this crap. It sounds like she’s got a good positive head on her shoulders though.

And people have a problem with Brad for being a wonderful and present Dad to his kids. They call him a babysitter!!!

Poor Mel B. The way Eddie has handled this says a lot about his integrity, or should I say lack of it. I hope things work out in her favor. This has been so humiliating for her.

It makes me sick that he won’t take the test or sign the birth certificate. He’s just pretending like nothing happened at all. You would think a human being with any character at all would have an ounce of compassion for a fellow human being and not make someone go through all this.

No offense to Melanie, but what in the heck was she thinking *planning* a pregnancy with Eddie Murphy anyway?

****No offense to Melanie, but what in the heck was she thinking *planning* a pregnancy with Eddie Murphy anyway?****

Why not? He has at least 4 kids with his ex-wife and by all accounts he’s pretty involved with them. I’m sure she saw him as a stable family man type and had no reason to think that he’d (assuming it’s his) abandon their unborn child.

Eddie needs to man up and take the test. If for no other reason than there’s a little girl involved who one day will need to know who her daddy is.

This is SO wrong it’s ridiculous. This is a grown man who knows first hand that when you have sex there’s always the possibility that you’re creating a life. Whether or not he was head over heels or just casually dating doesn’t matter, once he slept with her he should have manned up and done the test. What’s worse is that it was made so public. When did it become so difficult to keep your mouth shut and take things through the court system the way you should? Nobody knows how to take the high road anymore and simply not comment on what is a delicate situation.

To the poster who compared this to Howard K. Stern, I have to disagree that this is the same thing. You can’t compare a man who WANTED a child to be his to one who is blatantly and rudely disregarding another. The only similarity I see is the same publicity issue. At the very least Dannielynn will know she had two men who loved her and wanted her, as where little Angel can’t even manage to get a shout out from Eddie. Apples and oranges IMO.

I suppose my issue lies with how long their relationship lasted. Celeb or not, I don’t agree with anyone trying to purposely get pregnant after dating such a short amount of time (6 months is how long they were together?) I definitely won’t dispute that Eddie needs to own up to his responsibilities, but since we’re on the subject of “responsibilities”, I figured I’d throw in my two cents and say that I don’t think it was responsible on either account to try to conceive. :)

- Vanessa on

If there is any possibility that Eddie is the father, then he should have the DNA test performed.

Mel has no reason to lie about this, so I believe her when she says that this baby was planned and that it is Eddie’s baby.

For her sake and her integrity, I hope that Eddie is the father. I would hate to see her shown to be otherwise. It would be humiliating. I believe her and believe that Eddie is the father, but it would be a shame for her to be proven otherwise.

- Devon on

I’m currently pregnant with my 3rd child, whom was planned with my ex-fiance. We only dated 2 months before we conceived. I don’t think it’s irresponsible to act on how you are feeling about and with a person or because you want a child. The irresponsibility lies when the father who made the mutual decision backs out and won’t acknowledge what he’s done. Mel has not been irresponsible at all, it’s not wrong to WANT your child. Eddie needs to just submit to the test if he’s so unsure.
