Jaime Pressly shows off Dezi James' nursery

Img_0149_cbbPregnant actress Jaime Pressly, 29, eagerly awaits the arrival of her son Dezi James Calvo, next month, and gives Us Weekly a peek at his safari-themed nursery. Dezi is now due May 8th – a change, since earlier Jaime had given her due date as May 13th. Here are the interview highlights – click the extended post to check out Dezi’s jungle room in detail.

Turkeys done: I can’t wait to get my body back!

But something will be cookin’ again soon: In the next two years, I’d like another child, so Dezi has a companion.

Why the safari theme?: Teddy bears get old. It’s great stimulation and he’ll grow into it. [We chose the crib and changing table] because you can use them for a boy or a girl.

The nursery was designed by Erinn Valencich, who worked with Pottery Barn Kids to put the room together.

Img_0155_cbbThe crib is Pottery Barn Kid’s Larkin Sleigh crib, which is not currently available – however, they sell a slightly different – and cheaper – version ($700).

Img6lThe changing table is Pottery Barn Kid’s Larkin dresser in rustic sun valley expresso ($750), capped off with a changing table topper ($150). To the left of the table are blue stripe changing table storage boxes ($20).

Img_01521_cbbThe lamp is Pottery Barn Kid’s Marin table lamp ($80). Surrounding the lamp are animal letters spelling out Dezi’s name, as well as a childhood photo of Jaime, in addition to a photo of her fiance Eric’s Cuban grandparents, who ‘look like the Waltons.’ Jaime feels ‘its important to have different generations represented in the room.’

Img_0157_cbbOn the changing table sits a ‘chick magnet’ pillow, which cracks Eric up – he’s so excited, says Jaime. The pillow was a gift. A pair of Robeez’s baby dinos in light blue ($26) are in front of it.

The crib is beautiful and I love the little chairs, but I imagine if I was a baby or small child, having that huge giraffe staring down at me would terrify me! I also wouldn’t have picked such a garish mural for a baby’s nursery, maybe for a toddler’s once they were old enough to have an interest in the jungle, but I think teamed with the crib it makes the room look a bit overcrowded and dark.

- Sabina on

Its a cute idea for a toddler but the room seems overwhelming for a newborn, however I love the vintage photos of mom, dad and family members that have been placed around the room.

yuck…I hate the safari theme…I think it’s a little 90′s. And those big animals everywhere…scary!!! Of course I’m partial to pastels in the nursery. I don’t think I would ever put bright colors in the nursery, save that for the play room…vibrant for play, soothing for sleep!!! oh and I’m a sucker for baby blue, so that would be everywhere.

- Alyssa on

candles in a babies room seems a little out of place to me.

- sandy on

I think it’s too dark for a nursery. The huge animals are too much. I agree with the majority this room is more suited for a toddler than a newborn. I understand that celebrities have to stand out and be unique, but a more subtle color and theme would have been better.

- lakcarson on

well she’s got expert ppl helping her, so i’m sure they know what babies will like.luv the chairs =)

- ang on

She did mention that she wanted it to be a room he could grow into (grow up with), so I don’t see anything wrong with the safari theme. I actually think it’s cute. And I think the only reason the room seems too dark is because of the scans being a bit dark. Most of the colors she used seem to be nice, bright, easy-going colors. :)

I like the room, and I think it’s adorable. End of story. :)

Love the crib! The nursery is not my taste, but I still have to say it’s got a certain charm.

- PinkRoses on

I think it is weird when people pick out and announce names before the child is born! let alone decorating the nusery with their name.

she hasnt even met the baby yet, what if he doesnt look like a Dezi??

- ali on

Lol, Sabina! The giraffe was the first thing that jumped out at me! I like it, though I don’t know what little Dezi will think.
And ali, I agree that while having a name picked out beforehand is great, there is a chance that she will regret it. Jennifer Connelly originally planned to name her eldest son Liam, but he looked so exotic when he was born that she decided to name him Kai-which couldn’t be more different! If Dezi doesn’t look like a Dezi, that’s a lot of wasted monogrammed items. But I think the chances of that happening are slim.

- Lauren on

If I remember correctly, Jaime was on the “Tonight Show” a few months back Jay asked her about the name. In particular her fiance’s last name…I beleve that it is not actually Cubiche, rather that (as Jaime explained it) is more of a ‘nickname’ that meant something along the lines of ‘homeboy.’ I looked on imdb.com and his “real” last name is actually Calvo.

You’re right – I totally forgot about that. I’ll edit the post.

- Heather on

I would have to agree with Alyssa. The room is very overwelming. It reminded me of a book someone got me when I was having my first baby. Even then (2001) the rooms pictured looked very outdated, tasteless and tacky. The book was from Lowe’s and since then they updated the rooms in the book for more Classy ones.

While naming your baby before birth isn’t weird at all. This isn’t the 50′s. People have names that they like and sometimes name honor family members. But come to think of it Im sure alot of people in the fifties (before the ultrasound) people had names (boy and girl) picked out prior to birth.

As far as personalized items alot of companies offer personalized gifts. More than likely she got that as a gift. And of course there are those wooden letters that people use to spell out their child’s name for use as a decoration. Its actually a very hot seller. Its a cute way of personalizing the room. My daughters love it, and we have gotten so many compliments on it and Ive had 5 moms ask me to make them for their nurseries.

- Elisabeth on

Like a lot of other people I think the giraffe’s a bit scary for a newborn! Just a word of warning for anyone thinking of getting things personalised for the baby before it’s born – a friend of mine was told at their scan they were having a boy & a little girl turned up! A little girl who wears a lot of blue now!

- Emma on

I think the room looks awesome, but again its all personal tastes. Its a free country and I don’t think she is doing it to please anyone. I think these photos were taken by a bad photographer and might not have looked so dark if they had of used a better lighting system. I don’t think the girafee’s is that scary. A newborn only has a limited radius of where they see ( i can’t remember if its a few feet or inches..doesn’t matter)… and besides who is to stay that a tall person wouldn’t scare a baby…Let’s congrads them and let them be… Celebrities are people who get paid a lot of money by you all. You see their movies or shows or whatever their talent is.

- Isabell on

Ya know what,

I tried to like it. I really did. I went back and looked at the photos a few times and eek, I really don’t like the theme. It’s not so much the theme actually, cute idea.. its the colours. Something screams dingy thrift shop to me. Blah. Too dark too much, too buy, too depressing.

- Jenny on

I actually like the theme of her nursery. It does beat the beaten to death themes (e.g. teddy bears, princess). Good for her.

- Latanya on

I think it’s really awesome to have a name for your child before they arrive. You’re able to talk to your child before s/he even arrives, calling him/her by name. Plus it’s better than constantly calling the baby “the baby” or even worse, “it”.
They have an identity right from the get go.

- Kyah on

And as far as the nursery goes, who cares? Really. Dezi doesn’t. He probably doesn’t even sleep in there yet. Nurseries are never for babies anyway, they’re for the parents. A child would much rather sleep in their mothers arms than in the most decked out bedroom.

- Kyah on

I saw that crib at Pottery Barn Kids just yesterday and sells at nearly $2,000!!

- Janet on

I like this room…so many people put their baby’s nursery in pastels. A child sees their first color around 6 months…which happens to be red. If you put a nursery in pastels all a baby sees is a white room. Why not engage a child’s mind and eyesight by making the room interesting and with something they can see? I think this room is fun!! This is definitely not a celebrity cliche room of cutesie pastels and cheesy stuffed animals. This room is GREAT!!!

- brass on

Isabell, I laughed out loud at your tall person comment! It’s so true that it’s difficult to tell what will scare a kid. My little bro was scared of swings but loved roller coasters.
