William Baldwin speaks out on behalf of brother

04/25/2007 at 09:16 PM ET

Alec Baldwin is a "wonderful guy" and a "wonderful father," according to his younger brother William ‘Billy’ Baldwin.  In an interview given to Extra, Billy talked about the furor surrounding Alec’s troubling phone call to his daughter Ireland Baldwin, and the toll it has taken on their entire family.

This is a tough thing to have played out in the tabloid media, in the public … I just want it all to be over, all in our past.  I don’t want to have to be here having to come to my brothers defense to have to convince people that my brother is a wonderful guy and a wonderful father.

Contrary to the portrayal offered up by Alec’s ex-wife, actress Kim Basinger, Alec enjoys a "happy, loving relationship" with his daughter, according to Billy. The younger Baldwin brother went on to express concern for his 11-year-old niece.

I know that she loves her Dad very much.  I know that she wishes this would end…she’s probably embarrassed by all of this.

The interview will air Thursday.

I understand that he wants to support his brother, but, it’s best to stay out of this. Alec is a grown man and should do the talking. If Kim is the way he say she is, then he had to know there was the possibility of messages gatting out. They are equally wrong. This message really help prove he has an ugly uncontrollable temper. The part that concerns me most, is when he says,”I don’t care if you’re a child”. That speaks volumes, doesn’t it? Stay strong Ireland!

Come on of course he is going to defend him, he is his brother. What else is he going to say…”Did you hear what he said. Alec is a dog.” I hardly think so.
